"Peter, please just try to calm down," you said with a sigh. He had been pacing the room for ten minutes straight, hands clenched at his sides, shaking his head and muttering angrily to himself. You shifted in your chair, trying to find the words to comfort him. Earlier that day, Hook and his band of pirates had led a raid on the Lost Boys hideout. The mini battle had ended with the pirates retreating, but a few of the Lost Boys and a few from Tiger Lily's tribe had been injured. Their injuries were minor, no cause for alarm, but you knew Peter hated it when someone got hurt.
"Peter," you said, trying to catch his eye so you could talk to him. "Please sit down, at least for a little bit. I need to look at your leg," you said, glancing at Peter's left leg. His pant leg was torn and soaked with blood, and he was limping.
"I'm fine," Peter snapped, finally ceasing his pacing to face you. His forehead was furrowed, his jaw clenched. "It's nothing, seriously, I'm okay."
"No, you're not," you said, standing up and taking him by the shoulders. His emerald green eyes met yours, and his expression softened. You could feel the tension in his shoulders slowly relaxing, and he nodded.
"You're right," he said softly, sitting down and stretching his left leg out in front of him. He winced as he extended the limb, and you knew he was in a lot of pain.
You walked over to the dresser and opened the medical kit, which was a woven basket filled with medical supplies. You pulled out a tube of ointment, some rubbing alcohol, some cotton pads, and a roll of gauze, then walked back over to Peter.
"Who hurt you?" You asked, rolling up the pant leg to reveal the deep cut.
"One of Hook's little sea urchins," Peter said bitterly, scowling and clenching his fists. "I was sword fighting one of them, so I didn't see him come up behind me. Dirty pirate stuck his sword in my leg and pulled it down!"
"Why would he do that?" You asked in shock, pouring some rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad.
"He thought he could pull me down out of the air that way!" Peter exclaimed angrily. "He- OWWWW!" Peter howled in pain as you pressed the alcohol-soaked cotton pad to his wound. He jumped up out of his chair and shrunk away from you, clutching his leg.
"What in the name of Neverland did you do that for?!" He yelled, grimacing in pain.
"I'm so sorry! I should have warned you, but I had to start cleaning it-"
"You bet you should have warned me!" Peter cried. "That stung like my leg was on fire!"
"Peter, I'm so sorry, I really am!" You cried, rushing to his side. "Here, let me try again," you said, reaching for his leg.
"No, don't, leave me alone," Peter said, pushing you away, but you persisted against his force.
"Peter, please just let me-"
"I said leave me ALONE!" Peter yelled, pushing you so hard his arm slipped right past your shoulder and his fist connected with the side of your face.
You stumbled backwards, clutching your face in shock. Your cheek throbbed with pain, and you could feel it swelling.
"Y/N," Peter whispered, his mouth hanging open. "I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to..."
You shook your head and slowly backed away from him. "I was only trying to help you," you whispered, feeling tears welling up in your eyes. Peter took a few steps toward you, and you turned and ran out of the cabin, tears streaming down your cheeks.
You ran through the woods, following the path that led all the way to the cliff that overlooked the sea. You took a seat on the large rock, pulling your legs up to your chest and wrapping your arms around your knees. The cool tears continued to fall down your cheeks, although they were a slight comfort to the heat of your swelling cheek.
You couldn't believe Peter had actually punched you. Sure, he got mad sometimes, but he never showed his anger in the physical way. Peter's anger was more like frustration, really. He would clench his fists and scowl, keeping his anger contained, and it normally ended with him trying to keep his angry face intact while trying not to smile as you hugged and kissed him. But where was the normal happy ending this time?
"It's a beautiful night," a voice said behind you. You turned to see Peter standing a few feet behind you, his face solemn. You wiped the tears off your face, wincing slightly as you brushed your bruised cheek.
"W-what are you doing here?" You asked, sniffing and wiping your nose with your sleeve.
"I'm here for you," Peter said, walking over and taking a seat next to you. "Y/N," he whispered, looking at you with soft eyes. "Please look at me."
You turned your head to face him, seeing the pain in his eyes. "What is it?" You whispered.
"I'm so sorry," he said softly. "I didn't mean to... I was just so angry cause people got hurt, and you could have gotten hurt..."
"I know," you said. "But it really did hurt when you punched me..."
Peter reached out and pulled you into his chest, wrapping his arms tightly around your waist. You let yourself be pulled into his tight embrace, curling up in his lap and leaning against his warm body. You rested your head against his chest, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Peter shifted one arm so his forearm rested against your back, his hand gently stroking your hair.
"I love you so much, Y/N," Peter whispered, tightening his arms around you. "I was so mad because of the thought that I could have lost you..." His voice trailed off.
"You won't lose me," you said, looking up at his beautiful face. You gently stroked his cheek, wiping away a stray tear.
"Promise?" He asked, clasping your hand tightly.
You leaned in and kissed him on the lips, enjoying the feeling of his soft lips against yours. Peter cupped your head in his hand and kissed you back, the kiss long and sweet. When you broke apart, Peter had a soft smile on his face.
"I promise," you said softly, then leaned back against his chest. Peter tightened his arms around you once again, and the two of you stayed like that for the rest of the night, never wanting to let the other go.
