Just a warning of the odd bit of Hank swearing... Just in case you wanna know.
I care for you guys.If you couldn't already tell, in this one you are in hospital. I didn't put why as it can allow for that little extra personalisation. So feel free to imagine whatever you want. Luv ya <3
"What are you two still doing here?" Captain Fowler's voice snapped the partners out of their concentration.
"We are finishing these reports Captain. Why do you ask?" Connor looked rather confused towards the Captain who now stood leaning against one of the desks as he addressed the two.
"Well, technically your shift ended 2 hours ago and I'm pretty sure that the hospital visiting hours will be over soon. I appreciate how you both are trying to get the report done as soon as possible, but I believe there is someone else who needs you more than me. Am I correct?" It was at this, that Hank finally looked up from his own computer and towards the Captain. You were currently recovering in hospital and both Hank and Connor made the promise to visit you everyday right after work until visiting hours were finished for the day. They hadn't missed a single day so far, what would you think of them if they did without warning!? You'd be distraught, that's for sure!
"Shit, thanks Jeffrey. Connor we gotta go, now." Almost within seconds, both Connor and Hank had logged off of their computers, bid fair-well and Thank You to Fowler and were in the car on the way to the hospital in hopes to get there before visiting hours were over. The journey to the hospital was a rather quiet one due the the anxiety of both Hank and Connor not being able to make it to see you before the visiting hours were over. Sure Connor was able to calculate the timings and find that they will still be able to get there and see you for at least an hour, but the anxiety was still there due to the statistics of unlikely events that could easily take place. The panic ridden silence of the car was quite suddenly broken after Connor turned to look at a store.
"I'll be right back lieutenant." Connor announced as he began taking off his seatbelt and opening the car door.
"Wha- Connor!!" Hank exclaimed in panic, this wasn't exactly somewhere he could easily pull in, besides they were kind of on a timed mission. Connor bent down to look at his partner through the open door.
"I have plenty of time while we are stuck behind the traffic lights, I shouldn't be a moment." And with that, Connor closed the door and made haste into the shop that he was staring into moments ago. Since he was still stuck behind the lights Hank got a quick glance at the shop Connor had just darted into. It was an old book store that had both paper and hardback books before the digital books were introduced. What would Connor be doing in there? The second Hank even pondered the question, Connor came back out of the store, with something small wrapped in a paper bag within his clutches. He was lucky because right as Connor made it into the car and had his seatbelt on, the lights turned green and they were finally free of traffic and on the last leg of the journey to the hospital.
"You wanna tell me what all that was about? I was worried you could get left behind!" Hank exclaimed, curiosity eating away at his insides at why Connor would risk seeing you for something as weird as a paper novel.
"When I saw the shop I remembered a conversation me and (y/n) had not too long ago. They were listening to someone singing a song from the movie 'The Last Unicorn' and mentioned how they love the song and whilst having not seen the movie, they would very much like to read the book before seeing about tracking the movie down. However they seemed distraught over how it could be impossible to find it. I'm glad I went into that store Hank..." Connor carefully opened the bag to reveal a paperback copy of the exact book he was looking for. The Last Unicorn by Peter. S. Beagle.
"...as the odds of actually finding this book are extremely slim these days." (I was gonna make it o he just found a book you really wanted and have this section be a little smaller, but I just had to make it specific as I actually found The Last Unicorn in my local Waterstones the other day after listening to NSP's cover that morning. I'm sooo happy!!) Connor was practically beaming at this point, so much so that Hank couldn't help but let out a chuckle and ruffle Connor's hair.
"Heh, I'm sure they will love it son. Something like that will definitely brighten their day, if the other stuff we have somehow doesn't." Connor throws a glance back to the bag sitting on the seat behind them. You had been recently missing home a fair bit, so they thought they would try and bring home to you while you were suck in hospital.
