John's pov.
-2 weeks later-
Oh no
School starts in one week-
I'm so nervous and the worse part is that today is my least favorite day of summer-
School Shopping.
I used to love it when I was younger when my mom used to take me to choose my favorite backpack. I remember when I used to be obsessed with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and my mom surprised me by getting me a TMNT backpack for the first day of school. Those were good times.
Now that my mom isn't around anymore I'm kinda of like the parent figure because my dad doesn't really do anything. All he does is work or watch tv so this means this year I have to take Martha, James, Henry Jr, and Mary school shopping today which is going to probably get chaotic.
"Ok everyone ready to go? Dad already gave me some money so now we just have to walk to Walmart-" I said then lifted Mary up.
"But John Target is better it is more organized and has better stuff." Henry complained.
"I know but its also more expensive and dad gave me a strict amount of money so sorry-" I said then opened the door and lead everyone outside and started walking.
"Ok guys here are your school supplies lists. Now promise me. When we get there don't. Ask. For. Anything. Except. For. What's. On. Your. List. Got it?" I said. Wow this parent thing is hitting me hard.
"Yes John..." They all said agreeing.
"Also one more thing, try to get the cheapest things you possibly can, I don't feel like spending my own money on school supplies." I confirmed and they all nodded.
We talked about a few other rules then we eventually arrived.
"Ok please stay close to me the whole ti- Henry what did I just say!?" I yelled as soon as I noticed him jump into a shopping cart.
This is going to be difficult-
"John can I pleaseee stay in the cart I won't run off like I normally do.." Henry said giving me one of those faces that always works on people.
"Fine.." I said then put Mary in the front seat of the cart while Henry stayed in the back.
"Ok now Ja- where is James!?" I exclaimed once again.
"Oh... About that I told him he could look at the barbies he just can't buy anything-" Martha said while looking at her new phone dad gave her today.
"Martha why- your smarter than that- why would you let a 5 year old go in a section full of toys on his own?" I groaned and quickly pushed the cart with Mary and James in it while Martha followed from behind to the toy section.
Once we got to the toy section I saw James standing in a circle of barbie toys doing the t-pose.
Oh- ok then.
"James come on you know better lets pick these up." I said and started picking up the barbies.
"nO! I'm trying to bring them to life!" James whined.
"I'm sorry James but maybe another day and where did you learn that?" I asked slightly concerned then finally finished cleaning.
"YouTube." He simply said then grabbed my hand.
"Ok then..now let's go do what we are here for: getting school supplies." I said now holding onto James's hand and pushing a cart that has two kids in it and another following me on her phone.
Multi-tasking achieved.
~time skip brought to you by barbies~
"Ok now that we are finished we just have to pay for everything." I said while Mary the 4 year old she is just sat in the cart nearly falling asleep, Martha still on her phone, Henry running around screaming and James whining because he can't get barbies.
I was probably getting really strange looks right now.
Before I could attempt to stop what was happening I felt a tap on my shoulder then quickly turned around.
"Uhm hello.." I said being the decent person I am and greeted them.
"Oh.. Sorry to interupt you I guess? But it looked like you needed help-" they said and glanced at Henry and James now tackling each other.
"Anyways I recognized you because I'm pretty sure your my neighbor and I came over to say hi- I'm Elizabeth Schuyler but you can just call me Eliza. I have more siblings but they already came here earlier today so yeah-" she said then fixed her hair.
"Well it's nice to meet you Eliza I'm John Laurens but you can just call me John or something if you want." I said
"Welp now I have to go deal with these monsters." I said pointing to my siblings.
She laughed then said "here let me help you." She then took out four lollipops and handed one to each of my siblings and they were all quiet in less then a second. I was honestly shocked.
"How did you-oh wow now im gonna try that." I said then smiled "Thank you."
"No problem! I have some younger siblings too so by now I kinda learned all the tricks I guess." She said as I started to pay for everything. Suprisingly I spent less then I thought I would. Huh.
"Since we live right by each other we might as well just walk together anyways." She said and followed my siblings and I.
"So John are you new here? I have never seen you around." She curiously asked.
"Yeah, I moved here during the summer its really nice here, I'm going to Princeton high school I think." I responded.
"Oh cool! And Princeton!? I go there! I think you'll meet nice people. I can introduce you to my friends and sisters on the first day of school if you want?" She said then smiled.
"Sure! Thank you again Eliza, it was nice to meet you!" I said then noticed we arrived at my house.
"Of course! It was nice to meet you too! See you at school and around the neighborhood!" She said then walked off to her house. I never realized how nice it was to have a
Neighbor.
