No one spoke for what felt like hours. We couldn't bring ourselves to. I couldn't help, but feel guilty that Nathaniel had given his life for us in vain. As Rachel still managed to blow up an entire hospital of innocent people who wouldn't have known what was coming. Neither did we.
What she did was downright diabolical. I never thought I would be glad that someone had died, but Rachel deserved it. She was a cold blooded murder who hurt the people I love. At least her death would prevent her hurting another living soul. To save other families from feeling the pain of losing a loved one.
Suddenly Maia snaps me out of my pool of thoughts,
"We should probably go-"she said sniffling and wiping a tear away with her sleeve.
"The spell protecting us won't hold for much longer and plus I'm way too drained of power to strengthen it."
Gently, I release my grip of Nathaniel's soft, cold hand.
"Thanks for everything you've done Maia. I know you don't know me that well, but I really appreciate you saving our lives." I said genuinely.
She gave me a weak smile and picked up Nathaniel's body.
The sickening angst in my stomach returns. Ty's as white as a feather and Cory's battered and bloody. The charcoaled remains of the building creek and groan as its formerly tight structure begins to wane. We need to get out of here as soon as possible.I sling my arms around Cory's and Ty's shoulders as we stagger out the doorway held intact by Maia's spell. Once we made it outside my lungs practically burst with the joy of fresh air cleansed of smoke. I carefully laid Cory and Ty down on the overgrown shrubs. Cory was wheezing and grimacing in pain. He must've of saw the creases of worry in my brow as he gently squeezed my hand and said,
"I'll be okay. You're not getting rid of me that easily." I let out a much needed chuckle and Cory flashed me his typical toothy grin.Turning around, I see Maia already attending to Ty, she must've grabbed Nathaniel's rucksack as she pulled out a first aid kit. She seemed like a natural when it came to First Aid as within minutes the splinters were out. A flare of jealousy consumes me as Maia patches Ty up with a bandage and Ty pulls his bloodied shirt back down. I internally face palm myself. I'm not going to be that girl who get jealous every time another girl goes near your crush. Almost as if she can sense the awkward silence Maia said,
"He's lost a lot of blood. He can heal faster than humans, but with a wound that deep it's going to take a while. Blood should speed up the process."
I inch closer to Ty and say,
"Here!" Thrusting out my wrist with the blue veins clearly visible.
"Cassie I can't, you've lost a lot of blood. I don't want to hurt you and I don't know if I'll be able to stop." Ty replied pleadingly.
I cup his cheek softly and said,
"Hey , you've always been there for me. Please just let me do something for you. You won't hurt me; I trust you."
Hesitantly Ty reached for my wrist and plunged his fangs into my veins. When I was giving Ty my blood it was like we became one heart, one body, one soul. That my blood acted as a telepathic link between us. He could feel my elation in helping him and I could feel both his gratitude and his fear of hurting me. I tried to send him my reassurance through thoughts.
After what felt like seconds of bliss Ty pulled away. His pupils dilated back to normal. As his irises went from an unfamiliar red to his usual auburn. His face visibly relaxed and the black veins underneath his eyes melted away. Though I wasn't scared. He was still my Tyler no matter that he's a vampire. With all the blood I've lost I felt a little light headed, but the pool of blood from my head had dried up. Plus the amount of adrenaline I felt from tonight roared through my veins overpowering the pounding of my head.
"Here, you'll need this to stop the bleeding." Maia spoke and wrapped a bandage round my wrist. I nodded my thanks.
"We need to get Cory to a hospital." I said.
"You need to go to, you had a pretty bad hit to your head." Cory rasps.
"Maia as well, there's no harm in getting checked over." Ty said with the colour rapidly coming back to his cheeks as he slipped Nathaniel's backpack on his shoulders. Meanwhile Maia proceeded to lift up her brother. As Ty helped me carry Cory. Whilst we navigated round the front of the building and were greeted with a shocking surprise. A sea of patients, police, fire fighters and ambulances.**********************************************************************************
Earlier that day, a faulty oven in the hospitals kitchen had set on fire, causing the whole of the hospital to be evacuated. So all the patients were unharmed from the explosion. Naturally the police were called to investigate. The medics loaded Cory into an ambulance. Whilst the police questioned us as to why we were at the hospital. Ty disappeared when he saw the police and ambulances since he couldn't risk his secret getting out. I told him I understood and would call him with any news.
We told the police a cover story that we were at a late night party. Got wasted and passed out. Only waking up when the bombs went off. After that we ran out of the basement before the building collapsed.
Nathaniel's body was put into a body bag and sent to a coroner for a post mortem. Maia told the police her brother died as he was standing near where one of the bombs went off. We both gave our's and Cory's names and addresses.
It turns out my parents and Cory's dad had filed missing persons reports. We were sent to the nearest hospital for check ups and mine and Cory's parents were called. The officer who interviewed us said Detective Inspective Honeysuckle would question us further post recovery. We thought most of the drama and horror was over. Little did we know how wrong we were....
