Cassie POV

The last two weeks of summer were supposed to be buzzing with excitement and filled with the nail biting anticipation of going to University. We were supposed to be having our last hoorah, roasting marshmallows over the fire, laying on our backs haphazardly trying to guess the constellations, making s'mores and swimming in the lake. Instead we were faced with the exact opposite.

It had been 5 days since Maia's disappearance; 5 days of painful waiting, hoping and watching. My parents had driven up near Cornwall to visit my grandparents. They'd planned it weeks in advance and left the morning we'd set out to free Ty. Only we failed and were left clueless as to where both Ty and now Maia were. Creepy Al gave us more questions than answers. Questions we had no way in hell of knowing. You see at the same time my parents were visiting my grandparents in Cornwall, me, Ty, Cory and Maia were meant to be spending a week and a half in the lake house 2 hours from the outskirts of town. Me and Cory had still driven up there. We thought it would be better if we put some distance between Willow Creek and us. Since Creepy Al could still be there. We didn't want to risk another run in. We'd barely survived the last.

It was mid-afternoon and the rain pelted ravenously down onto the roof. I sat, curled onto the pleat armchair reading City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. I gotta say I'm extremely pro Clace. Fluffy blue blankets wrapped themselves around me, as I delve into the shadow world. When I hear a rustling. I think it came from the kitchen. I set my book down carefully onto the wooden table. Untangled myself from the safety of my blankets and pick up the nearest weapon at hand – the Wii remote. Very menacing, I know. Ever since this summer's events, I'm always conscious of every noise that's out of place. I mean it could be Cory doing God knows what, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Cautiously I creep over to the kitchen from the lounge, channelling my inner Sherlock Holmes.

As I neared the entrance of the cabin's open plan kitchen. Just as I say,

"Aha! Found you!" I catch Cory red handed, cheeks stuffed like a chipmunk with barbecue hula hoops crisps. His hand itching closer inside the now empty packet. He looks so guilty, I raise my eyebrow in response.

"You scared me doofus! Is that the last of the barbecue hula hoops, you thief. Sharing is caring." I tease, putting my hands on my sides, whilst jutting out my hips. This just makes Cory laugh more and almost choke on his food. Once his highness has devoured the last of the crisps, he looked at me puzzled. Uncrossing his dangling legs from the marble island counter, he furrowed his eyebrows,

"If you thought I was a thief, why on earth is your weapon of choice was a Wii remote?" He said bursting out laughing. I flipped him the bird.

"Shut up okay, those things hurt like hell. Patrick accidentally chucked one at my head when he got a bit carried away playing just dance." I replied sticking my tongue out.

"That's my man. Your little bro's savage." Cory said mid chuckle, clutching his stomach.

"Hey! You take that back." I said joked. Cory mimicked me, then said,

"Nope." Whilst popping the 'p'.

"Yes!"

"No!!"

"Yes!!!"
