Cassie POV
I heard the slam of a car door and the quick succession of steps rustling the grass behind me. As other cars whisked past on the motorway adjacent to the lay-by. Soon enough Cory was stood beside me. We remained in a tense; suffocating silence. Neither of us itching to break it.
"You're sexy when you're mad." Cory uttered shifted nervously from either foot.
"And you're a terrible subject deflector." I replied. Cory chuckled
"You always could see through me." He said.
"Well what are best friends for." I replied smiling weakly.
"I'm sorry." We both said unanimously. We both burst out laughing; holding our sides.
"You go first." I spoke gesturing to Cory with my hands.
"No you."
"Cory!"
"Alright! Alright! I'm sorry for snapping at you and putting my mouth where it wasn't welcome." He replied looking at his feet.
I put two of my fingers under his stubble ridden chin I tilted his chin up so his ocean blue orbs stared directly into my own green ones. His eyes once too big for his face, now besotted to the rest of his slim, angular features.
"Hey, I'm sorry too. For pushing you. I should have known by now that if you're gonna tell me something you'll do it when you're ready. Can we just go back to being best friends now?" I said hopefully.
"What if I don't want to?" Cory huskily replied.
"What do you-?" I asked confused, but before I could finish Cory's lips latched onto my own. Snatching the air out of my lungs.
My head went dizzy, as my train of thought lost in the moment. As soon as I saw sense my hands shoved Cory away from me. He looked as surprised as I was. His shoulders hung with tension. His lips swollen.
"Cory I don't understand. One minute we were fighting and the next you're kissing me?" I rambled breathlessly.
"Of course you wouldn't." Cory mumbled under his breath just of a high enough volume so I could hear it.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Wouldn't you like to know." Cory said.
"Do you have feelings for me?" I inquired.
Cory looked down at the patch of daises next to my feet, before countering,
"Are you in love with Tyler?"
I bit the inside of my cheek.
"Fine, be that way."
"That's fine with me." Cory said sarcastically.
"Why don't forget the whole thing happened. It'll be better for the both of us." He said begrudgingly through gritted teeth. As he glared daggers at the road.
"I'm sorry for everything." I whispered as quiet as a mouse.
Clearing his throat Cory said, "We better get going." Cory said as he shoved his hands in his pockets and stormed off to the driver seat of Ty's car.
"Yeah. I think we should."
I slid into the back solemnly. A single tear shed down my cheek. I wish Ty was here.
***Tyler POV***
The iron door collided with the concrete wall with a great bang. Ringing through my ears. Thudded footsteps echoed behind me. Till a man in his late thirties, early forties came into view. His face was an eerie powdered white. Clean shaven, but bristled. His jaw was clenched in anger. Yet his cloudy grey eyes so familiar bear only coldness. His pale pink lips were drawn up into a sickening grin. Whilst his brass buttoned navy coat hung loosely on his wiry frame.
"Ready to talk yet Rhodes?" He asked.
My chapped lips remained firmly shut. My throat felt as dry as the Sahara desert. He pursed his lips then said,
"Such shame you have brought upon our kind. The sooner you give up the names of your accomplices the more merciful I will be." He said smugly whilst placing a cup of blood precariously at the edge of the table furthest from me. Just out of my reach.
"Fess up and you can have this." He spoke pointing to the porcelain cup.
"If not death will not be kind to you." He threatened. Knocking the cup off of the table.
It shattered into millions of miniscule pieces of pottery, just like my hopes of freedom. The blood spilled off of the table. Dripping down and gathering in a pool on the floor. My fangs automatically went down. Painfully sinking into my lips. I squeezed my eyes shut in pain and clenched my fists in restraint.
"You're mine now boy!"
I didn't even hear when he left the room. Instead I wallowed in my own misery...
