One after another my sobs racked my body under the night sky. I had managed myself out of the house without anyone noticing. With my phone in hand, I tapped at the screen trying to get enough letters in before the water in my eyes blur my vision again. A little part of me wishes it were raining just to put the cherrie on top of my self-brought misery, but nonetheless the skies were too clear for my liking. All I wanted to do was stare at the moon in peace, but I can't right now.

Walking along the paved path, Luke's house came up beside me. So badly I wanted to knock on his door, or even just shoot him a message asking if I could spend the night there. I couldn't care less anymore where my mom found me at this point. She wouldn't see a strand of my hair and I wouldn't be phased by her freak out. I just wanted to see someone that would take me in and not give as much of a damn so I can go about in peace.

My jaw clenched. The music in my ears wasn't loud enough to drown out the oncoming flood of thoughts, so I pressed a button on my phone and it got even louder than what it probably should be. It was on repeat which wasn't the best choice seeing the song I chose to listen to.

Fuck the world. Fuck everything. Fuck life, what love is supposed to be, and fuck trying to live life to the fullest. What does that even mean? Love with no regrets? That's impossible. Whatever kind of connection I'm supposed to have with this family is frayed.

My fingers tapped on my phone screen. The short message I had just put in was sent to Luke in a matter of time. And now I wait. I wait to see if he's even up at this hour or if he's got the patience for me. I'm just too exhausted to do anything right. My phone buzzed not long after letting me sigh in relief.

Luke

Can I come over?

Sure. Need something?

A place to stay for the night

What's wrong? U can stay
the night but is there
anything I should know
about?

I'll tell you when I get
over there

Ok. Do u need me to walk
over there?

I'm already outside. I'll be
at ur house in a sec

K I'll be out.

My hand combed through my hair. The lump in my throat tightened as I neared his front door. I didn't try to knock or ring the doorbell. The back of my hand wiped across my under eyes to keep the tears from falling down my chin.

The door opened to Luke in a t-shirt and pajama pants. "Hey," I said quietly shoving my hands inside my sweatshirt pockets.

"Hey," he repeated. Luke stepped out of the way to let me through. He closed and locked the door behind me. "We don't really have a guest room. You can take my bed tonight." I nodded in acknowledgment following him down to the basement.

My body flopped onto the colorless sheets. Already my limbs started easing out of their tense state. "Will that be okay?" he asks pulling one of his pillows from the bed. I nod. Silence enveloped the room as I saw him search for a few things like a phone charger and blanket.

"Thanks," I mumble sniffing up something I probably shouldn't.

Luke's head shot up from leaning over the couch. "Huh?"
