Denise said nothing as Chris dragged her outside with him. She knew he was upset that she made such a decision without first talking to him about it. Quitting Tumblr may have seemed like a minor issue to others, but to Chris- it wasn't. Tumblr wasn't just a social media platform to Denise, it was her sanctuary. She had decided to pursue screen writing because of Tumblr, they had met because of Tumblr, and she had made friends all across the globe because of Tumblr. Her quitting wasn't a minor issue, it was a major one.
Chris released Denise's hand when they arrived under the oak tree, the same one that they'd danced under before the ceremony. It worked in Denise's favor that Chris had taken her there because the surprise she had for him was waiting in that tree. That was if her brother had done as she'd asked him to.
"When were you planning to tell me about it?"
"Believe it or not, sometime during our reception."
"And what was the reason you were going to give me?"
"I can't remember, probably something selfless and romantic."
"I am not in the mood, Denise," Chris furrowed his brows at her. She giggled which made his lips quirk slightly. "Why'd you quit, and when did you quit? Also- why is this the first I'm hearing about you quitting? I mean- I know it's just Tumblr, but- C'mon, it was everything to you. You spent so much time on there, writing for all your readers and making friends with people from all around the world. For crying out loud, some of those people are at our wedding, Denise. Why did you quit? I don't get it, I- I really don't."
"I know, but you will," she reached for his face and brushed his cheek with her thumb. "How good are you at climbing trees?" She asked and his frown deepened, confusion contorted in his facials. "I hope you're as good as Donovan 'cause your reason is sitting up there." You pointed at the oak tree and he looked up, chuckling in disbelief. "You always said you wanted us to do more outdoor things together."
"Yeah, like going for a hike. Or camping." He glanced at her then back at the tree. "Not climbing a fucking tree," he chuckled and she bit back her smile. It was probably unnecessary, the tree didn't have anything to do with her surprise. Denise just liked the theatrics and her brother wanted to see if he could climb that tree, and he could, extremely well. "How is this us doing outdoor things, are you going to climb the tree too?"
"Do you want your pregnant wife to climb a tree?"
"Obviously not. But be honest, even if you weren't pregnant-"
"Obviously," she cut him off, chuckling. "I would rather die than ruin my Elie Saab and Louboutins." She quipped and he laughed as he slipped off his jacket. He held it out for her and she took it, draping it over her arm. "You can do it, Cap. I promise what's waiting up there is worth the small climb. Well..." She winced as she scanned the tree. "I'm hoping it's small, I didn't see where Donovan put it."
"So I'm meant to search every inch of this tree until I find something I've never seen before, and even you don't know where your brother put it?" He quizzed, trying not to smile at her expression. It became apparent to Denise, in that moment, that she should've just given him the gift instead of making him climb a tree for it. Unfortunately it was too late now, he had to climb.
"Sounds about right," she nodded, giggling. "Up you go, Cap. And be careful, I don't want the best day of our lives to become the worst day of our lives." Chris rolled his eyes, slightly offended his wife didn't think too highly of his tree climbing skills. Every boy had climbed a tree before, it may have been a while but it still wasn't his first time. "I don't think he put it up too high, he said he didn't want to make things too difficult for you." Denise told him as he started his ascend. "It's probably near the centre trunk bit. I don't know what it's called, I'm not a tree expert."
