Chapter 25

Pain rippled through her body as she came to her senses.

The first thing that came to her mind was intense training that probably caused her soreness. However, she jolted upwards once her mind cleared. Unfortunately for her, that caused the chains that were tightly holding her down to dig into her wrists. She winced.

Reyna could not believe what had happened. She was doubting her own memories, praying to the gods that it was all a dream. It was pretty obvious that it wasn't.

Looking around, Reyna was in a dark room. Only a small amount of light poured in through a small window with bars near the ceiling. Squinting, she saw another set of chains laying at the other corner of the dark room. It was only then she realized that she neither sitting or lying down. It was more of both. Her back ached at the thought of her weird position.

Clicked.

Light poured in from Reyna's left direction. She had to move her face away to avoid being blinded.

Grunts and groans could be heard and Reyna recognised Will's voice.

He sounded beat.

When the beings that were dragging Will in had secured the chains on him, they left, not realizing the Reyna was awake.

"Will." Reyna's voice came out rough, as if she had not drank in days.

Will lifted his head.

"Reyna? You're up?"

Reyna narrowed her eyes, "You sound confused. How long was I out?"

"Not long enough."

Reyna continued to stared at him.

Will sighed, "Alright alright. I gave you some sleeping medicine that usually keeps someone out for days. I was hoping that you wouldn't wake up so soon. At least until I've figured something out."

"Why would you do that?" Reyna growled. She did not like the idea of having someone plan things out for her without her.

"Because I knew they would come to me first. I'm obviously weaker than you so no matter what they want they would try to get it from me first. And while you were out, I hoped that you would heal and regain your strength. In the meantime, I would try to figure how to get the hell out of here since they're always bringing me around the place."

"Heal?"

"You do remember that we were dragged into earth and travel all the way here through dirt right? We could've died if I wasn't a healer. But I guess you probably heal faster than normal too considering you're a daughter of the war goddess."

"Okay fine, I get you now. So what do they want?"

"Allegiance. They want us to pledge our loyalty to them."

"Are they serious? Why would they even think we would comply?"

"I honestly have no idea."

"Who's behind all this?"

"I'm still trying to figure that out. They want me to think that they're the highest level of authority but it's obvious they're not. I think it might be Kronos or Gaea."

"But that's impossible."

"They probably have a very powerful being behind their backs. I just can't tell who."

Reyna sighed. Wiggling her fingers, she tightened her muscles and tried to push herself up into sitting position.

"Don't force the chains. Slowly ease them up. If not they'll not let you move." Will advised.

Reyna did as he said.

When she finally got to sitting position, she leaned her head against the cold wall. It was only then she realised that Will had injuries all over his body. His clothes were torn and stained with blood.

"What the hades happened to you?"

Will chuckled, "You won't believe it."

"Try me."

"During one of our sessions, I managed to find a loophole and got myself some alone time. I barely got through an iris message to Nico before they found me. This was my punishment for trying to escape."

Reyna's eyes widened, "I never really took you to be a field guy."

"It's because I'm always at the infirmary doing healing stuff right?" Will smiled, "Well, I guess I never had the chance to do field work anymore when you knew of my existence."

He was right.

When they met, the war was already over. There was no need for any field work done.

"How are you feeling?"

"Could've been better but I guess I feel kinda great that I managed to get to someone."

"Why Nico?"

"To be honest, he was the first person that came to mind."

Reyna did not answer to that.

Just as Will was about to elaborate, someone slammed the door open. The two demigods immediately slumped their bodies.

Whoever that came in must be pretty stupid for not realizing that both demigods were awake.

"Finally they feed us."

It was surprisingly not torture that met Reyna when they finally found out she was awake. In fact, they offered her luxury.

She was surprised. She was pretty sure that the beings that she had came face to face before doesn't think like that.

Whoever behind all this must be someone new to the scene.

When she was sent back to the cell with Will only that she realized what their game was.

"Nice huh?" Will glanced at Reyna.

They were no longer in chains now that they're both awake and knew what was wanted from them.

"Something's off." Reyna mused.

"It's not normal eh?"

"Why would you think Kronos or Gaea? This is not like them,"

"Yeah I know, but like I said, they have someone behind them."

"So what now?"

"Now we starve. I suggest you sit down to conserve energy."

And that went on for days.

However, it was obvious that whoever it is didn't want them dead. They received each exactly 8 cups of water a day when they weren't offered food and when they have food they don't have water.

Both Reyna and Will could tell the meaning behind all the arrangement.

Control.

They wanted the two half-bloods to understand the meaning of control.

Giving them only one of the necessities of life meant that they have absolute control on whether they live or die. That itself is showing their authority.

On days that they get water, the door would open every once in awhile to let in the scent of food, causing hunger pangs to hit. And when they get food, dirty water would rain down on them.

It was a miracle that they didn't fall sick.

They probably lost count the amount of days they had been in that dark cold cell.

Until the door burst opened and people filled in.
