27 - Words and Actions

Y/N's Point of View

I stare at him longer than I planned. But he only tilted his head later in confusion and gave me that charming smile I always knew. "Are you gonna eat your donuts or what?"

I smile back at him and bring my attention to the usual donuts we always had.

"You know, you've always been very silent last year, but as soon as we got to know you, you're pretty loud." He starts this with a smirk.

"I am not!"

"Who said you could contradict? You are. You're full-blown crazy once someone gets close to you." I chuckles when I give him a death glare. "But you know, I'm glad you got to open up, you're someone worth having in a group." He bites his donut.

"You're really trying hard to keep this 'just friends' thing obvious and emphasised, huh?" I smirk at him, he looks stunned.

"Well you didn't contradict with my insults back then, either. You always just thought of an insult to get back at me; there's obviously some walls there." He doesn't look at me as he says his last statement.

"We really don't know where we stand, don't we?"

"No,"

"Then how about we forget about everythi--"

He cuts in. "I know what I did, Y/N, it's not something you could just forget."

There was a short silence before I could muster up the courage to say something. "Laurance," was all I could say.

"I'm gonna cut to the chase, Y/N, we both know why Lucinda and the others left us alone for." He takes a deep breath. "And they... couldn't have picked the worst timing."

"Laurance, I--"

"No, I want you to listen to me first. I know I've been a jerk and, so far, a really awkward friend but.."

"Laurance, I--"

"Y/N, please." He takes a sip of his drink. "Y/N.. I want you to go to prom with me..."

I stared at him as he looked at me expectantly. "Laurance, I--"

"It's not--"

"CAN I SPEAK NOW?!" I snapped at him as he sat stunned. I sigh and stare at him. "Laurance, I would love to go to prom with you.."

His eyes shone brightly as if he won the lottery. He better, I'm worth the prize won in the lottery, probably more. "YES--!! Wait no, you can't say yes yet!"

"What?"

"I can't have my promposal in a mall in a donut shop, only asking you to be my prom date, I need to have a grand promposal!" He stands up. "Keep that 'yes' to yourself for now," he looks out at an invisible distance with a smug look on his face. "I will do something for a promposal, not like this peasant-like way of asking." He stops acting like a dramatic cartoon character and faces me. "And then you'll say yes."

I playfully hit his shoulder, "You're such a dork!"
