The sound of people greeting one another filled your ears as you walked down the dirt roads into the marketplace. You had only been in search of some food for you and your sister. The two of had been on your own since the two of your parents died unexpectedly.

You never had much, and it only got worse when they died. However, you always found some type of work to do to earn money for food.

As you neared the food booth, you noticed a man and a young girl at the booth next to yours. You were only close enough to hear some of the conversation, but you could tell that he was arguing with the woman in front of him.

You glanced at the young girl to see her eyes set on the teddy bear in front of her. You looked away from the two to purchase your food. when you had finished you looked up to see the two were still there.

You looked down at the leftover coins in your hand and sighed. Although you did need the extra money, you wanted the little girl to have her bear.

"Excuse me," you spoke as you walked over. You stretched your hand out to the man, "here."

The man - who you now saw was quite attractive - stared down at the coins with his mouth dropped slightly. He began to shake his head, "thank you. But I can't."

"I insist," you smiled, and motioned to your bag, "I've already bought my items. Please take it."

He sighed, then gently took the coins from your hand, "thank you so much. I'll pay you back, I promise."

You laughed and shook your head, "no need."

As you turned to walk away, the man called you back, "what was your name?"

You smiled, "y/n"

"Jefferson."
