the morning of the day things changed was chaotic. charlotte was woken up by her four-year-old brother, todd, and was sent off to pick up her father's dry cleaning.
once she got back, she was pestered by her mother to get her brother ready for a play-date. so minutes later, she was slipping a shirt onto a squirming todd.
she finally had some free time when she realized that she had to be at work in a half an hour. so she ran to her room to brush her hair and put on her work uniform and was out the door with only a few minutes to spare.
she drove to work quickly and walked into the grocery store.
"samuel's! you're late!" gwen, charlotte's boss yelled
"i know, i'm sorry, it won't happen again," charlotte reassured her, grabbing her apron.
"you're on aisle 2 and 3 today," gwen told her and then left to go do whatever she usually did during the day.
charlotte walked over to aisle 2, scoping it out, there were shampoos and soaps in the aisle, which she really hoped she wouldn't have to help anybody out with. aisle 3 had various canned foods and boxes of cereals.
charlotte roamed around until she finally saw someone in aisle 3. it was a woman who looked like she was in her early thirties, charlotte walked up to her and smiled.
"can i help you with anything," charlotte asked, even though she knew what the answer would be.
"no, thank you," the woman smiled back at charlotte and continued grabbing things from the shelves.
charlotte walked over to aisle 2 again, walking up and down the aisle, waiting for someone to enter. in the free time she started straightening the shampoos and conditioners, until she felt a presence near her. she turned around and saw a purple-haired boy looking at the different soaps with scrunched eyebrows.
"can i help you with anything?" charlotte asked sweetly. the boy turned around and nodded. of course charlotte was surprised by the fact that the boy actually needed help.
the boy's mom had sent him out to pick up soap for her, but he honestly didn't know anything about soap or what kind of soap his mom wanted, he was hoping a girl would know what kind of soap his mom would want.
"what can i help you with?"
"my mom sent me out to get bar soap," the boy told charlotte.
"okay?" charlottes furrowed her eyebrows, unsure of what exactly this boy was getting at.
"well, i don't know what to get her! i figured a girl like you would know what to get," the boy laughed.
"what do you mean by 'a girl like you'?" she asked, slightly offended, slightly confused.
"a girl that smells nice and has pretty skin," the boy smiled smugly until he realized that what he just said had sounded extremely creepy.
charlotte backed up a bit and pointed to a box on the shelf.
"you can try that one," she nodded, a tight smile on her face.
the boy nodded, turning around and grabbing the box, silently yelling at himself for the awkward situation he had created.
"thank you," the boy nodded. he began to walk away, but charlotte felt bad for him. he had clearly tried to flirt with her, and he had failed, miserably.
"wait!" charlotte called after the boy. he turned around with wide eyes, surprised that the girl was actually talking to him after that.
"yeah?" he replied, trying not to seem too nervous.
