charlotte's day started calmly. she woke up cuddled to michael's side, while soft snores escaped his lips. she brushed his hair off of his forehead and everything hit her like a bus.

she was happy, and so was michael. they could grow up and be haply together and they could get married and raise a family and everything would work out. everything would be fine.

michael's skin seemed paler than usual today and his skin was adorned with droplets of sweat, cold sweat.

charlotte furrowed her eyebrows at it, and then brushed it off. it was probably just him getting sick or something. he still hadn't woken up so charlotte ungracefully rolled out of bed and pulled on a pair of michael's sweatpants and one of his shirts. she looked absolutely ridiculous in the clothes considering that michael was three times the size of her, but she didn't really care.

she padded into the small kitchen area and pulled out a box of cereal, pouring herself a bowl. she began to worry a bit after she had finished her cereal and michael was still not up. he was usually awake before her. she sighed and walked back into the bedroom only to see michael lying on the bed staring at the ceiling.

"mikey?" she called softly. he tore his gaze away from the ceiling and looked at charlotte, smiling lazily.

"do you remember that first date i took you on?" he asked her.

"yeah, we went to the arcade and you called me a legend," charlotte laughed, sitting down next to him.

"and do you remember the second date?" he asked. charlotte nodded happily.

"you went all cliché on me and played me a song on guitar, you fucktard," charlotte rolled her eyes at the memory.

"do you remember the song?" michael sighed.

"give me love, ed sheeran," charlotte spoke quietly.

"he's your favorite," michael said, remembering what she had told him.

"yeah," charlotte spread her body across the mattress and cuddled into michael's side.

"what are you're favorite songs by him?" michael asked.

"autumn leaves, even my dad does sometimes, thinking out loud, and sunburn," charlotte answered quickly.

"sunburn is my favorite," michael told her.

"it sounded like a painful relationship," she pouted.

"i don't think there was anything wrong on either side of it, neither of them wanted to try. all they needed was one person to give up and leave the other person scarred," michael bit his lip and returned his gaze to the ceiling.

charlotte was silent as she checked the time. it was nearly noon, and she bad to be at work by one. she jumped off the bed and mumbled a quick explanation to michael as she ran into the shower.

michael was sitting on the couch when charlotte emerged from the bedroom. she was brushing through her hair while michael was watching the news.

"suicide of three teens shakes northern texas," the lady spoke. michael gulped and charlotte grabbed the remote, changing the channel.

"must've been a planned thing," charlotte muttered and slipped her shoes on. she walked over to michael and kissed his forehead.

"i'll be home around seven, and i'll pick up food on the way home so don't eat dinner," charlotte told him as she grabbed a key to the apartment.

"goodbye charlie," michael smiled, his voice cracking at the end.
