"my parents want to meet you," charlotte announced as she walked into michael's apartment. he had given her a key around a week ago, and charlotte used it a lot more than she liked to admit.
"fuck, we're not at that part in our relationship are we?" michael replied, looking up at her from his seat on the couch.
"wow, you're actually out and about today, usually i have to wake you up from a nap," charlotte remarked sarcastically, ignoring michael's comment.
"shut up, speaking of meeting people..." michael trailed off. charlotte sighed and took a seat next to him on the couch.
"who wants to meet me?" charlotte asked.
"luke," michael told her. the name took her a minute, but she then remembered michael's description of him. he was - in michael's words "nine feet tall."
"i'd love to meet him sometime," charlotte smiled brightly at michael.
"how about today?" michael asked.
"today?" charlotte looked at him in disbelief.
"yeah, for lunch, in like an hour, i already set up plans with him, so you're going," michael laughed. charlotte rolled her eyes at him and nodded.
"okay, okay," she agreed, causing michael to let out a yelp of joy.
"wait," michael stopped their conversation.
"yeah?" charlotte raised her eyebrow.
"what should i introduce you as? i'd rather not introduce you as my 'thing' again," michael chuckled.
"i don't know, mikey, that's up to you," charlotte giggled.
"i don't want to call you my girlfriend," michael whined.
"why?" charlotte asked.
"because it's all so generic, we're not like all those couples on the streets, and they're not like each other, it's way too generic for me," michael shrugged and sighed.
"just call me your girlfriend, it's better than calling me your 'thing'," charlotte joked. michael groaned and nodded. they sat there quietly until charlotte finally spoke up. she wanted to talk about this for a while but she didn't know how.
"do you love me?" charlotte asked meekly.
"ah, love, another generic term," michael said sarcastically.
"answer the question," charlotte scoffed.
"i don't know charlie. love is weird, ya know. nobody is in love the same way, i can't say i love you, because it could mean i love you the way i love luke, or the way i love pizza, or the way luke loves his girlfriend, or the way i love the memories of my dad. do you understand that?" michael asked.
"yeah, i guess," charlotte answered, even though she didn't really understand.
"i love you the way i love you, and i love you the way you love me, if you do love me," michael told her.
"of course i love you, you idiot," charlotte smiled.
michael beamed at her and looked at his watch.
"we should prbably get going," michael sighed and pulled charlotte off of the couch. he walked towards the door and opened it, not stepping out.
"after you, charlie," michael motioned for charlotte to go through. she scrunched her nose up at the nickname and rolled her eyes at michael.
"thank you, mikey," charlotte snickered, putting emphasis on the nickname.

"how the fuck did you get her to date you?" luke exclaimed after michael had introduced charlotte as his girlfriend.
"i was desperate," charlotte joked and took a seat next to michael.
"shut up," michael whined.
"you know i love you," both luke and charlotte said in unison. they looked at each other and laughed.
"how have you been, michael? i haven't seen you in person since you found this girlfriend of yours," luke remarked sarcastically.
"better," michael told him honestly. luke knew michael inside and out. he knew every bump and bruise and scratch and scar on michael. he knew what michael was thinking, he knew what michael wanted, and he knew if michael was telling the truth.
luke nodded and looked at charlotte and then at michael quizzically.
"she knows," michael told luke, because it was the exact same way it was for luke with michael.
"you must be pretty damn special, michael never tells anyone anything," luke told charlotte sincerely.
"i didn't think so," charlotte laughed. michael wrapped an arm around her and chuckled.
"she knows she's special, lucas, you don't have to tell her," michael shook his head.
the three were quiet for a minute before luke looked charlotte in the eye.
"don't you ever hurt him, i can't see him hurt again," luke told her. michael sighed and grabbed charlotte's hand reassuringly.
"if anything, i'll end up hurting her," he pouted and looked down at his lap.
