“He did what?” Grace and Ashley squealed when I told them the news. “First, Skip acts like an idiot to you and then while his roommate who is also your brother leaves the room he throws himself on you? And makes out with you in his bed? What, did he wear rubber or somethin’?” Ashley asked.

I began to laugh, partly because it was funny and partly because it was disgusting. “God, no! I barely know him! It was just intense. It was passionate. It felt like it was about to go somewhere, like we were newlyweds on our honeymoon in Hawaii. But we both knew that it wasn’t. It was like I need Skip. I felt his other side. It was there. And I was thinking, ‘hmmm, maybe this could go somewhere. Maybe he truly isn’t the jerk that he’s been acting like.’ So I went along with it. He seemed like he really wanted me.”

“What’d he do? Like, where were his hands? And where were yours? And how did it go?” Grace asked. “I’m sorry! I’m just highly inexperienced when it comes to boys! So are you! This is big for our friendship square.”

“Grace, we are a group of three. A triangle. And you’re right, I am inexperienced. I’m not gonna give you all the big details.”

“Why not?” they both cried, heartbroken. Hanna and Susan waved to us from our lunch table in the corner.

I waved back. “Because. It’s personal. It’s between Skip and me only. His hands were around my legs and my hands were in his hair.”

“Calf or thigh?”

“Mostly thigh, but sometimes he ran them around my calf.” We sat down and they began to discuss the previous night’s events.

“What’s this I hear, Claire Ogner dating a Vernon boy?” Susan asked playfully.

I groaned. “Is that the main topic of conversation between our group?”

“Yes!” all four answered. I was surprised to see Hanna smiling.

“How were his lips?”

Warm. Soft. Kissable. His tongue, oh, his tongue. Even better. “Fine. Everything was fine.”

“Claire Michaela Ogner, you are in a closeted relationship with Skip Burroughs and we expect details!” Ashley snapped. “And I’m not gonna take this ‘everything was fine’ shit!”

“How do you know my full name?” I turned to Grace. She was beet red in her cheeks.
