-Account of Katsuri Ayase-

Part II

When I woke up, I was lying on a bench at the lobby.

"Mommy?" I looked around as I called her name.

I saw a half opened door.

I heard distant conversation behind it.

I peeked and saw mom and dad there.

There was an old man there too.

He looked like a doctor of some sort.

"Ma'am, I'm afraid your husband's condition is worsening."

"Does that mean..?"

"His Friedrich's ataxia is in it's last stages now."

"Isn't the data wrong? Redo the test again!" my mom yelled.

"Chihaya.." dad said sighing.

"B-but Kyousuke... it... it isn't fair..." my mom said and started crying.

"I know it's hard... but we'll just have to go through it right?"

"What about Katsuri dear?"

"M-Mommy?" I spoke out as I entered the room.

"Katsuri? Since when have you been listening?" dad asked.

"What's F-F-Frie...drich atashia?"

My dad then stood up from his bed.

"Kyousuke you shouldn't-!"

"Don't worry, the doctor's here." my dad smiled at my mom.

My dad carried me in his arms.

"It's Friedrich's ataxia sweetie. I'll tell it to you more tomorrow okay?"

"Um... I don't understand..."

"Just rest for now okay?" my dad said as he kissed me in the forehead.

My dad laid me on the bed, singing me a lullaby as I fell asleep.

The next morning, I saw my dad painting again even though he's in the hospital.

"D-Daddy?"

"Oh, my little daughter's awake now. Good morning."

"Good morning Daddy. What're you painting Daddy?"

"Why don't you take a look Katsuri?"

As I gazed upon the painting, it was our family picture, which dad drew.

"Daddy, why did you draw a picture?"

"It's much better this way right?"

"Yup! I love Daddy's paintings!"

I hugged my dad.

I felt his tears running down his cheeks.

"Katsuri... I'm sorry if I couldn't teach you how to paint."

"It's okay Daddy! Just get better soon okay?" I said with a smile on my face.

My dad hugged me tightly.

I liked how he would carry me with his arms.

I felt secure and safe.

Everyday, however, things started to change.

My dad seems to be getting weaker as I visit him on weekends.

He would smile and act like it was nothing.
