I walked into the record store, a smile on my face as I walked around before going to the section I wanted to. In the section, there was a guy standing there, looking around at records. He had slightly curly brown hair and was wearing a black hoodie, skinny jeans, and Vans. He looked up at me and made a simple smile, before looking back down. He had such beautiful brown eyes. I smiled and turned towards the shelf full of records, searching for the one I came here to buy. Just as I was about to pick it up, the man standing next to me was also about to grab it. I looked up and giggled, as he looked disappointed. I pulled my hand back, shaking my head, “You take it, it’s fine.” I told him, smiling.

“No, you can have it,” He said, smiling softly and shaking his head.
“No, really, you were here first. I can just, like, come back in a few days or go to another place. It’s cool.” I said, giggling. He smiled at me, then he looked like he was thinking about something as he looked down to the floor. After a moment, he then looked up at me and smiled.
“How about this? I buy it and you can come back to my place with me and we can listen to it together.” He told me, a bit smug, but smiling. I thought about it for a minute, smiling as I looked around the record store. He’s a complete stranger, I don’t even know his name yet. The paranoia could have gotten the best of me, possibly thinking that he could hurt me somehow and I would kindly say no. When I looked back at his twinkling eyes and soft smile, I chose the better way instead. “Yeah, that would be nice.” I said, smiling, nodding my head softly. A grin came to his face then he picked up the record before gesturing me to walk towards the counter. I giggled as we walked together towards the checkout counter.
After he pulled a 10 dollar bill out of his pocket and paid the cashier, he spoke. “Oh!, my name is Kelen by the way.” He said, chuckling, then taking the bag from the cashier. I giggled and followed him towards the door.
“I’m (Y/N),” I told him. He smiled at me as he pushed the door open, stepped out, then held it open for me. I walked out, smiling and said a small “thank you” and he made a gentle “mhmm” before we walked together down the sidewalk.
After only walking about a half of a mile, Kelen said, “I live in this apartment building.” He pointed towards the tall, wide building and I smiled. I looked down at the ground as we walked towards it. When I looked back up, Kelen was looking at me with a look of concern on his face.
“So do I.” I said, giggling. “How come we haven’t met before?” I asked him.
“Well, I just moved in about a week ago.” He told me, smiling as he pushed the side door open and I quickly walked in behind him.
“Oh!, so you’re the new guy I’ve been hearing about, huh?” I said, before giggling. I’ve heard a few things about Kelen…that he’s clumsy, he’s too loud in his apartment but it’s okay because he’s on the bottom floor, and my best friend even told me that he’s cute. Well, she was right about that.
His cheeks turned red as we began to walk together down the corridor. “What have you heard about me?” He asked sheepishly. I couldn’t deny how cute he looked when he blushed.
“Well… My best friend lives on this floor and she’s seen you around. She said that you’re clumsy, but you’re a total cutie. I think she was right about that one.” I told him smugly, slipping him a wink, before giggling again. I decided not to say anything about him being too loud…most people are in their first week of moving in. I know I was.
He blushed once again and he chuckled as he pulled a set of keys out of his pocket. I could tell that he was flustered and just like that, he dropped his keys before even getting them to the doorknob. I couldn’t stop myself from bursting into a fit of giggles. He gave me a playful glare, but his face turned very red as he leant down and picked up his keys. He quickly unlocked the door and pushed it open. He stepped back and gestured for me to walk in first. I said a small “thank you” before walking in. His apartment looked almost exactly like mine. There was a San Jose Sharks jersey on the floor next to the coffee table in the living room, and a Sharks hat on the table just above it. Magazines laid out messily on the coffee table and mail envelopes covered one part of the kitchen counter. Pairs of Vans, Converse, and a pair of boots surrounded the tv stand near the bedroom door. On the other side of the tv, there was an end table next to the couch, and there it sat; his record player.
“Sorry about the mess,” he said sheepishly after walking in and closing the door behind himself.
“Ehh, don’t worry, your place looks almost exactly like mine.” I giggled, turning around to face him. “Except, I usually keep my record player in my bedroom.” I said, smirking softly, then making a subtle giggle. He smiled at me before gesturing me to sit down in the living room. I turned and walked to the couch, then sat down, watching him open the record sleeve and slowly pull the vinyl record out of it. He placed the sleeve on the coffee table, then quickly walked to the record player.
As soon as the music came on, Kelen turned to me and smiled goofily before walking to the couch. I giggled at his goofy smile, rolling my eyes, but smiling also. He sat down next to me, “So, tell me about yourself, (Y/N).” He said, turning towards me and resting his arm on the back of the couch. I turned toward him, laughing a little, before speaking.
“Well, okay, I work on a farm outside of the city, I’m a student at a local university, and I’ve lived here for 2 years.” I told him, smiling.
“And, how old are you?” He asked me, grinning.
“23,” I giggled.
“How many years have you been going to college?”
“This year, 6. I’ll be doing 8, studying anthropology.” I told him, smiling.
“Oh, that’s awesome. I never went to college.” He chuckled.
“Why’s that?”
“I’m in a band,” He told me, then paused, “We’re off tour right now, recording a new album.” My face lit up, and he looked at me weird, giving me a questioning look.
“You see, music has always been important to me, since I was a teenager. I always wanted to be in a band, but I lead to anthropology instead.” I told him, smiling, and tapping my hand on my leg to the music. He smiled back and quickly nodded his head in understanding. “What do you play?” I asked him, fully amused and wanting to know more.
“I play bass, uh, in a pop punk band.” He told me, glancing down to the couch. He suddenly looked insecure and worried. I gave him a look of concern after he looked up at me. He just shook his head, then smiled at me. “Never mind,” he said quickly, and just like that, we carried off into conversation for hours, the record playing on repeat.

It seemed as if Kelen and I just kept drawing closer on the couch. As the last song on the record played, the way Kelen looked at me told me that he wanted this to be more than just a friendly talk. We both sat turned towards each other, and I saw the nervousness in Kelen’s eyes. “Can I… Can I kiss you?” He asked me, a subtle smile on his lips and the look of want in his eyes. I couldn’t stop the smile that came to my face.
“Of course you can kiss me. I thought you’d never ask.” I said, and I watched as a grin pulled on his face. He leaned into me and I leant closer as well, his right hand softly cupping my cheek. His eyes glanced from my eyes to my lips as I placed my hands on his shoulders. Once we got close enough to where our noses nearly touched, I closed my eyes, and just then I felt his lips on mine. It was only a quick, soft kiss before he pulled away. Just when I wished he would have kissed me more, his lips pressed back to mine. He immediately lead us into a deeper and more passionate kiss. He ever-so-gently placed his other hand on my neck, just below my jawline. I moved closer to him on the couch as he deepened our kiss further with his tongue, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
After making out for longer than we probably should have, we both pulled away and my eyes met his. The music had finally stopped and I knew that this visit had come to an end. Kelen pulled his hands away and I removed my arms from around his neck. Slowly, I stood from the couch and smiled at him. I could tell the look of adoration in his eyes, but before he could speak, I spoke before him. “I’ll see you around.” I said, before turning and walking towards the door. On my way out, I wrote my apartment number on the whiteboard in his kitchen. After that kiss, I’ll definitely be seeing him again.
