(Krysta's POV)
A random guy named Gerald Way once said that, “Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary”. It is my belief that anyone can be a hero. It just takes hard work, determination, and sometimes a little push in the right direction.
Wow, isn't that a fancy way to start a chapter. I probably sparked your interest. Good, because that's what I was trying to do. Whoever said that Aurelia and Brianna are the only ones who start a decent chapter can suck it.
My name is Krysta, but you probably know me better as the hero Blaze. I'm the daughter of a really famous superhero. Like really famous. My mom is Crystal Flame. She can control both fire and ice, and she was a member of the Crystal League. Talk about a tough act to follow. I mean I really do try my best, but I always seem to mess things up.
When I was first starting out as a hero I got a chance to work as a sidekick for Butterflygirl. She was my idol. I looked up to her. She was everything I strived to be as a hero. However, when I met her she rejected me and my ideas. I just wanted to help, but I was never good enough for her. So I stopped trying to please her. I'm going to be the best hero Silver City has ever seen, and I'm going to do it my way.
Currently, I'm trying a new method of being a hero. I'm recruiting a team. A sort of Team Blaze. I'm search the city for new supers to train for my team. However, I haven't found anyone for my team yet. But don't worry, I'll find some supers eventually.
Right now I’m doing the stupidest thing imaginable. I’m wandering the dark alleyways of Silver City. Sure Silver City may seem like a happy place, full of superheroes wearing capes and brightly colored costumes, but like any city there is danger lurking in the shadows. Oh wait, I need to retract that statement, none of the heroes in Silver City wear capes. The only hero stupid enough to go against the wise words of Edna Mode is Apollo. But Goldfish doesn’t live in Silver City.
Suddenly a shriek pierces the night air. I turn my head in the direction it came from. A dark alley. In the words of my former mentor, “How cliche”. Without hesitation, I run into the alley.
Personally, I think planning is a bunch of bs. The priority of a hero should always be saving whoever needs help. Stopping to plan only delays the reaction time of a hero, and the only plan I ever need is to ‘Save the day’.
In the alleyway, I find members of a local gang crowding around a girl. The girl has chocolate colored skin, thick curly hair, broad shoulders, and an expression that exudes anger more than fear.
She knees a guy who is holding a pink purse in the groin. She scowls at him as she yanks the purse away from him, “Didn't anyone tell you that if it ain't yours, then don't touch it.”
“Relax sweetheart. Consider it compensation for us not killing you.” says a menacing looking woman flaunting a switchblade.
“There will be no killing on my watch.” I declare as I approach the group.
“Oh no, it's that pyro gal.” mutters one of the gang members.
“Just ignore her and finish the job.” Snaps the switchblade lady.
The girl rolls her eyes, as a couple muscular looking guys try to grab her. She slips out of their grip and uppercuts one of the guys on the jaw. Instantly he drops to the ground like a sack of potatoes. The other guy throws a punch, but the girl dodges it. Then she grabs the guy and throws him through a nearby wall.
I stare at the girl in awe. She literally threw that guy through a wall. Bricks crumble down around the guy. One brick even lands on his head, as if to spite him. The guy makes no effort to get up, he just lays there and moans in pain.
