(Aurelia’s POV)
“Oof” I mutter as I get hit with lightning. “What was that for?”
“You weren’t paying attention.” Jasper retorts.
“I was too.” I object crossing my arms. “I was trying to think of what do next, also you said we weren’t going to use powers.”
“You said you were going to take my training sessions seriously. I can’t have you as an ally if you can’t fight.” Jasper replies.
“I can fight. I’ve beaten you with my powers before.” I point out.
Jasper rolls his eyes, “I let you win, and you can’t fight without using your powers. If you’re useless without powers, then you can hardly even consider yourself a hero.”
“Ouch J, that really cut deep.” I say sarcastically.
“It was suppose to.” Jasper replies.
A few days into attending the Silver City academy and I’m already sort of hating. Jasper is convinced that he can teach me how to fight. I’m convinced that I’m a lost cause when it comes to hand to hand combat. I think that planning how to take down the Meta Alliance would be a much more productive use of time.
I glare at him and telekinetically trip him. The second Jasper hits the ground, I feel sorry for him. That was kind of a dirty trick to just trip him like that. I hold out my hand to help him up.
Jasper stares at my hand momentarily as if considering what to do, then he says “Don’t do that. Don’t act all heroic. I’m perfectly capable of standing on my own.” Jasper rejects my help and stands up on his own.
“I wasn’t being heroic. I was being nice. You don’t need to be a jerk about.” I snap. “Also you can drop the whole villain act. I happen to know for a fact that you’re..” I don’t get to finish that statement, because Jasper rudely interrupts me. I place my hands on my hips, “Did you really just shush me?”
“The only rooms in this Academy that aren’t bugged are the dorms. The Alliance is highly suspicious. The Academy is a recruitment ground for new members. They want to be certain that there aren’t any traitors within this school.” Jasper tells me in a hushed tone of voice. “I’m surprised that you hadn’t figured that out already.”
I nervously tug at my jacket to ensure that my wings aren’t visible in the slightest bit. Suddenly, it feels as though I’m being watched. I quickly think of a lie for whoever might be listening to our conversation, “How disgusting. It would unfortunate for any traitors to cross paths with us.”
Jasper cringes, “You need to work on how you deliver threats. You sound like a church kid trying to cuss.”
“And you need to work on not being a jerk.” I deadpan.
“Ouch Aurelia, that cut deep.” Jasper replies sarcastically. “I’m not a total jerk am I?”
I flash a mischievous grin at him, “I’d say you’re at least 80% a jerk.”
Jasper fakes being offended, “Only 80%? I expected to get at least a 95%. I have a reputation to maintain.”
“Your reputation is trash.” I scoff.
“Not at this school.” Jasper replies as he walks out of the training room.
I brace myself on the doorway frame and lean out of the training room, like a weirdo. “Where are you going?”
“I have homework to do.” Jasper calls back to me. “Our training session is over.”
“Fine. Be like that. See ya later.” I call back to him. “Have fun brooding in your room.”
