Ship: Zaniel

"Its been one month since the thing happened." Daniel whispered to his mom. Keri patted his back and handed him a small envelope and left the room. Daniel sat on his bed, staring at the envelope. On the front his name was written in cursive while on the back a cute kitten sticker sat on the white paper.

Ever since the day a month ago, Daniel hadn't had the mental strength to even touch the box the letter was in. He was terrified of what was in it. He laid down on his bed, making the old wood creak under his body weight.

Hesitantly, he ripped open the seal carefully. "Here we go." He mumbled to himself before sliding the lined piece of paper out of the envelope. A picture fell out too, but he left it on the bed for later. His eyes swelled up with tears as he read it.

Daniel.

In my 17 years of life, I noticed something.
Nobody sees anything anymore.
Every day I faked smiles.
They didn't notice.
Nobody did.
I wore long sleeves everyday.
Even in 100 degree weather, and they still didn't notice the scars I hid under the safety of them.
They never saw that I wasn't happy.
But there was one thing that made me happy.
You.
Daniel James Seavey you made me smile
when I thought I never would again.
You pieced my broken heart back together and completed my puzzle.
You made me genuinely happy.
Every date we went on.
Every park we walked through.
Every pizza we ate together.
Every coffee shop we visited.
All the parties we threw.
I loved the last two years of our lives.
We created a legacy.
And I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry I have to ruin your legacy like this.
I can't take it anymore.
It's not worth it.
I have no point in life.
But Please.
Don't miss me.
It'll hurt you more then I know I already have.
I love you.
I love you to the moon and back, Daniel.
I always will.

Love, Zach.

Daniel wiped the tears off and sniffled before folding the letter back up and sliding it into the white envelope.

He shakily stared down at the upside down picture, the ink hidden under the sheets. He picked it up backwards, and let out a choked sob.

"Why Zach. Why'd you leave me." He whispered before turning the picture around.

It was A photo booth picture. Zach's red cheeks being kissed softly by Daniel, a huge smile spread across the younger boys face. A tear ran down Daniels cheek again.

He stood up and walked to his random drawer, pulling out a package of thumbtacks. He pulled out a yellow one and held the picture up on the wall, stabbing the tack into the dry wall.

He smiled and looked at the pictures he had on the wall. Dozens of them. Zach and Daniel at the beach. The two at the carnival. At the mall. Movie dates. Everything.

But one was hung specially. Right on the door of his room. The day before Zach took his own life, they took a special picture. Zach with tears running down his face, while a sparkly ring was sitting on his finger. Daniel grasped the ring in his hand and smiled at the picture.

"If only you were here to see the man I have become." He sobbed while placing the ring softly in the velvet pouch and back into Zach's shoe box. "I love you Zach." He said staring at the letter again.

"You'll always be my light in the dark."
