"Good morning, mom," I sing-songed. I ran down the stairs and kissed her on the cheek.

"Good morning, dear." She was dressed in a purple pencil skirt with a matching purple blazer. Under the blazer is a white sleeveless dress shirt. She's a lawyer. She works in an office across town all week including weekends. So, she is only able to be at home during night hours and when she is home she's always working on papers. She only works so much because my dad left us three years ago. I put bread into the toaster and searched for peanut butter in cupboard.

"You're gonna have to wake up your brother and sister, make them breakfast and take them to school this morning," She stated. I sighed loudly and dropped my shoulders.

"I don't have a car. School is twenty-five minutes away."

"Calum does." I groaned loudly in annoyance and ran back upstairs. I opened the door to the room they shared.

"Roxy, Kaiden. Time to get up," I whispered walking over to shake them gently by the shoulder. Roxy and Kaiden are twins. They're seven years old. After the two of them were out of bed, I took both of them into the bathroom to get ready.

"Kaiden, can you brush your teeth and get dressed?" I asked him. He nodded with a sweet smile on his face. He grabbed his tooth brush from the cup beside the sink and started brushing. I got Roxy to sit down on the side of the bathtub so I could do her hair. I pulled my phone out of my pyjama pants pocket and dialled Calum's number. I threw my phone on the counter and put it on speakerphone.

"Who are you calling?" Roxy questioned.

"Calum," I said quickly, digging underneath the counter for a hair tie. Kaiden finished brushing his teeth and ran into their bedroom.

"Cora, you do know that guys sleep in later than girls?" Calum said groggily.

"I know, I'm sorry. Can you do me a favour?" I asked. I started fishtailing Roxy's dark brown hair. I put a hair tie between my front teeth.

"Depends."

"Could you drive Roxy and Kaiden to school today?"

"Sure, honey," He joked, making me realize we sounded like we were married. I laughed loudly, scaring Roxy.

"I'll be there in ten minutes," He said while yawning.

"Thank you, I'll see you then." I hung up and quickly finished Roxy's hair. She ran back into the bedroom and got dressed. I ran down the stairs. Mom had left without saying goodbye as usual. Kaiden was downstairs waiting on the couch. I poured them both a bowl of cereal. We had twenty minutes to get school which wasn't going to be enough. Calum opened the front door.

"Hey!" I yelled. He waved. Kaiden ran over to Calum and wrapped his arms around his legs.

"Hey, buddy," Calum greeted ruffling his hair. I quickly rushed upstairs. I walked into Kaiden and Roxy's room. I picked up Roxy like a baby and ran her down the stairs. I slid her her bowl of cereal across the counter. Calum sat down on the couch with Kaiden and started watching TV. I ran upstairs into my room and quickly put on a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and a hoodie that I had stolen from Calum a year ago. I quickly put my hair in a bun and ran back down the hallway for the third time. I slipped on the top step of the stairs and tumbled to the bottom. I hissed in pain and then starting laughing loudly.

"You alright?" Calum said after having a laughing fit. I nodded.

"Let's go," I laughed. The kids both put their bowls in the sink and walked over to the closet at the front door to put on their shoes. I handed Kaiden and Roxy their backpacks as they walked past me. "Thanks again," I said to Calum.
