"Morning lovers!" Sean sang out as Zacky and I emerged from the bedroom. Sean and Wes sat in pristinely groomed perfection at the dining table on the far side of the room. I had no doubt that Wes had started his day in the gym and I was absolutely certain that he'd forced Sean to accompany him and that Sean would have complained the entire time.
Zacky and I looked sideways at each other. Lovers. That was one way to describe us. Not the way either of us would prefer. The guilt at being caught out together had been so strong that we'd lay in rigid silence, afraid to touch each other, in the giant king bed until we'd dropped into exhausted sleep. Of course we'd woken up curled around each other like we had every morning since he'd arrived.
"Why, pray tell, were you bashing at the bedroom door at this insane hour?" I glared at Sean who had indeed been hammering on the door as if there was some kind of emergency. I glanced at my watch, it wasn't even eight am.
"Chop chop kids. We're going wine tasting," Sean beamed.
"Er, excuse me but what the fuck?" Zacky dug his hand into his pocket. I concurred. What the fuck indeed.
"I have a driver waiting to take us out to the Napa Valley," Sean supplied taking a serene sip of his coffee.
"Look man, I didn't exactly come up here to go wine tasting," Zacky said shooting me an apologetic look.
"No? What did you come here for?" Sean asked in a deceptively innocent voice which hardened as he continued, "Did you just come here to shag my friend?"
"No!" Zacky looked taken aback. "I came here because Kelly is a good friend and my life's gone to shit. I can talk to her, she doesn't fucking judge man."
"We're learning all kinds of new things about Kelly lately," Wes murmured.
"Listen Zack, may I call you Zack?" Sean set his coffee cup down carefully in its saucer, "Do you know what goes well with talking? Wine. Do you know what company misery loves? Wine. Do you know what might make me feel a bit better about the god-awful weather in this city? Wine. Honestly I think I'd prefer to stay in London where one expects the weather to be utterly bloody rather than to be taunted by sunshine one moment before the sky is entirely blotted out by fog. So help a fellow man out Zack and come wine tasting with us."
Zacky looked at me and his mouth stretched out into a grin. "You know what Sean? Wine tasting sounds fucking awesome."

Sean cheered up once we'd escaped the city and wound our way into the Napa Valley and his mood became positively sunny by the time we'd finished tasting at our first winery and by the time we were on our way back to San Francisco he'd crossed the line into gleeful ebullience.
Zacky sat beside me in the SUV, the warmth of his body pressed into my side. There were faint red wine smudges staining his lips. We weren't exactly drunk but nor were we sober. He glanced briefly behind us to where cases of wine chinked merrily. "How much wine did we taste?" he asked.
Sean leaned across me and waggled a finger in Zacky's direction, "All the wine Zack. We tasted all the wine."
"You don't have to swallow it you know, you can spit out in the bucket thing," Wes piped up from the front seat where he sat beside our driver.
"Suck and spit?" Sean reflected, "Sounds like some of the worst dates from my teenage years. No my loves, I'm all about the swallowing."
Zacky made a choking sound. "Fucking hell."
