Chapter 18, Family ties

***Lucy's point of view***

"Thanks so much for helping me set this up Aine."

"Really, it's not a problem. If we can manage to get everything down to the square by the morning, everything else will run smoothly."

"Provided we don't get attacked."

"Yes there is that, but the longer you leave it, the higher the risk to the children."

"I know, and Alex doesn't think these two guys have anything to do with this guy. I wish we could talk to Will, strategise and organise our defences, but after all that happened I can't see him and Violet coming to terms any time soon."

"He always seemed such a sweet boy, I still can't believe he attacked Matt."

"I hope for his sake that he comes to his senses soon. I know how much it hurt Alex to send him away, but the longer he stays away, the more pissed Alex is gonna get."

"Being alpha can lose you friends, it just happens."

"I hope not, Will means too much to us. For now though, it's in his hands."

"What do we have left to pack?"

"I think this should do. We'll ask everyone to bring a dish or two. Have you sent out the message yet?"

"Nope. I've never sent out a full pack link. To be honest, I'm a bit nervous. Like how will I know if everyone heard?"

"They will all hear, don't worry. First times the hardest. Have you told the kids?"

"I'm going to go up and do that now, then I'll send out the pack message."

"I'll double check we have everything here, if you need a hand with the pups just call me."

"Thanks Aine."

I leave the kitchen and go upstairs. I know Bernie is with them now.  I open the door.

"Are the pups with you?"

"Can we see? Can we?"

"Ha ha, no, the babies are sleeping now. They do that a lot. I have come to speak to you all."

I see the look of fear creeping back into these children’s faces.

"Now, first of all, it's nothing bad. So you can relax. Tomorrow morning, we are going to introduce you all to the rest of the pack. There are families with other children your age who would love to meet you. The reason we will introduce you to the whole pack is so that you can try to choose which family you would like to live with."

"I thought we would live here?"

"Well, after you meet all of the families if you still want to live here, I'll see what we can do. But I promise you, the people of this pack will take you in and love you like their own. You know I was adopted by a family in this pack, so was Jamie. And we turned out just fine."

The children start to whisper to each other, some with smiles others with frowns, but at least some are smiling now.

"So, how about tonight, we pack up all of your stuff, ready to go in the morning. And then have a little party?"

"A party?"

"Yep, everything is set up downstairs. Now as soon as you're packed we can start the party. I'll see you downstairs."

"Lucy, can I talk to you outside?"
