Chapter 24, The smell of death

***Leo’s point of view***

Enough playing around now. I slide the knife in between his ribs and twist. He drops to the ground I missed the heart but I know his lung is useless. He won’t be fighting me again.

The female who chased Will has also fallen to the ground. Hmm, well that should make this easier. I hold the knife to the alphas throat.  He has shifted into his wolf form, but he won’t heal before I kill him.

“I have your alpha, I will kill him if you do not do exactly as I say. Stop fighting immediately, that includes my men.”I wait for the fighting to stop. “Good, now if any of so much as fucking twitch I will slice his throat open and then I will come for you. But your death will be far, far slower and much more enjoyable. For me that is.” I see them fighting against themselves, they want to fight, but without an alpha they know they can’t defeat me. “I want you all to shift into human form, and kneel in front of this lovely little stage. After all some of you may live long enough to serve me. You’d better get used to it. Do it now.”

My men, staying in wolf form lead them to the stage, where they kneel, like sheep. The female wolf that fell when I stabbed the alpha is still on the ground, still in wolf form. I could force her to shift too, but even if she tries to attack me, I know I can take her down.

“Bring her to me Will.” He stares at the wolf on the ground gulping for hair. The noise is actually very annoying, if I didn’t enjoy watching him die I’d silence him. “Will, do not make me ask again.” He drags Violet to me, it’s good to see her in chains again.

“You said I could find my mate, once I brought her to you.”

“All in good time, she’s not going anywhere is she?”

“She is injured, she won’t survive if I don-“

“Fine go to her, I have what I came here for, hand me the chains.”

The hesitation in his eyes gave him away, even as he is shifting in mid air and lunging for my throat I have moved the blade from the alphas throat, and it is slicing deep into my attacker. I take a step back and his wolf falls to the ground, the wooden stage is soaking up his blood. I stand on his throat while I clean the knife on his fur. I twist my foot and hear the satisfying crunch. I know he won’t be getting up again.

I pick up the chains that have left deep red welts in my mates skin.

“Miss me?”

***Matt’s point of view***

“Matt, he has me.”

“It’s going to be ok, I’m close.”

“I think Will is dead, your alpha is dying, I think they are both dying, but she wasn’t touched.”

“Her life and his are connected, neither one can live without the other.”

“I can’t do this Matt, he is sniffing my neck and breathing on my face. I’m going to be sick. He has me Matt.”

“No Vi, focus on me, ignore him. I’m almost behind you. You aren’t going to get sick, you are going to be the brave woman who hid rocks to fight a wolf. I’m going to kill him and he will never hurt you again. Do you hear me?”

Silence. I can see her now, she is still limp, he is shaking her trying to wake her.

Violet?”

Nothing. Shit. “Lucy, I know you’re in pain. I’m going to kill this guy, are you strong enough to get to Violet?”

“Matt, I can’t connect with Alex, even our mate bond is blocked. I can’t move.”
