CHAPTER FIFTEEN
(filler chapter)
Jungkook and I were sitting in the backyard, it was 2 in the morning and he was drinking coffee. His focus was on the moon, I didn't understand how he could sit and stare at a rock for so long. I was admiring the way he looked, the way the small bonfire in front of us reflected hues of orange and red across his cheeks. The way his eyes remained dark, with glistening stars dancing around in them. There was something so mesmerizing about how Jungkook looked and walked. No matter what he did I wanted to sit back and watch him do it, admire his ability to figure out anything life handed him.
"Babe?" I tucked my legs under me as I leaned back in my chair. "Can I ask you something?" He turned to me taking the final sips of his coffee before setting the cup down beside him. "What was your life like before Amphis?"
He froze temporarily I could see the mental guard go up as soon as I posed the question. I wasn't going to push it, ultimately I was okay with hearing anything he was willing to share. He took a sharp breath in moving his body fully to face me. He was hunched over his fingers intertwined in between his knees.
"It wasn't good. Namjoon and Jin found me at 15, I was sleeping in an alley near Jin's old house." He shook his head, mostly to himself. I could feel the inner fight he was battling trying to find the words to say. "My mother was killed, and I guess I became obsessed with trying to get revenge. My father saw it as unhealthy, my persistence with trying to find clues. He was set on it just being a fucked up act by a fucked up person. But I couldn't bring myself to let it go. I went digging through my parents stuff one day, and I found my mothers old journal, or journals. They were all about this gang rivalry her and my father were in. They lived in Jeju island and I guess got caught up with the wrong people, eventually they were in the middle of a gang war. People trying to become superior, so when my mother got pregnant with me they ran to Busan. They lived 14 happy years there before she was killed. When I told my father what I had found he was furious, he didn't want me to know about any of that, and for good reasons. But I couldn't erase my memory, I would search for the names my mother had written down in the journals trying to find suspects. After I got arrested one night for fighting my father had had enough. He kicked me out and I lived in the streets for a few weeks, then Amphis found me."
"Oh." I wasn't sure how to react, or if I was allowed to ask anymore questions. "Did you figure it out? Who killed your mother I mean." He nodded and returned to looking at the stars and moon.
"Yeah some thug from Jeju. He learned the hard way not to fuck with my family. My father ran back to the states to take care of his parents, I haven't seen him since." Jungkook didn't sound bitter or upset, and maybe that's because he had a new family now.
"Princess, yesterday. What did you mean when you said not to worry about it? Not using protection." He was back to looking at me, the fire was now out but the hot embers were still glowing hot emitting beautiful colors across his face.
"I can't get pregnant. I got 'fixed' so to speak." I couldn't look him in the eyes as I played with my jeans.
"Jesus, your dad?" He asked.
"Yeah, when I was 16. It was just apart of work." I shook my head tucking hair behind my ears.
"Princess you do realize how wrong that was right?" I look up and Jungkook is looking at me with his Doe eyes and a worried gaze.
"Yeah. I know." I looked at the embers trying to escape the gaze I was under. "But I'm okay Jungkook, really." He stood up sitting beside me pulling me into his side, wrapping his arms around me. We sat like that for a while, he would occasionally kiss the top of my head as we just stared into the night. I was counting how many pops the glowing wood would make and watching as sparks crawled up toward the stars eventually dying and falling back to the Earth.
"What were the others lives like?" I looked up at Jungkook, "Before Amphis."
"Namjoon's father is the founder of Amphis, he wanted to save kids. What it was then isn't what it is now. Hoseok and Yoongi were the first to join, Yoongi came from a mafia family in Daegu. It was a really rough time there, he would go months without a proper meal if he didn't work hard enough. He had enough one day and ran to Seoul, running straight into Namjoon. Hoseok came from good people, but bad parents. They abused him, worked him like a slave. He couldn't take it either, it was either suicide or running to live a new life. He says he saw us in his dreams so he ran to Seoul and literally found Namjoon's house himself. Next was Jin and Jimin, Jin was an illegal arms dealer, born into that life. He and Namjoon go way back, they were in school together and Jin would always visit Namjoon at this book store he worked at. Joon worked the night shifts so Jin would come after an arms deal, they'd talk for hours and Namjoon would read him random chapters of books. He was taken in after Namjoon's father passed. After his passing Joon turned cold and like me, just wanted to clear the world of shitty humans. When I learned about his life that's what made me join, I had someone to relate to." I moved so my head was resting in his lap, legs running along the bench we sat on. His hands playing with me hair as he talked. "Jimin came from a rich family. His parents are corrupted CEOs that didn't really want kids so they just filled up his debit cards and gave him anything he wanted to keep him happy. But ultimately money doesn't fill the void of not having a family, so he met Yoongi and Hoseok. Those three became best friends, and they still are even if you don't see it. Yoongi hated how his parents treated the boy he cared about so he asked him to come be with Amphis. So he did, and then they found me, and then we found you." He kisses me cutely on the head with a loud 'muah'.
I smiled at the story, turning to look at him I smiled wider. I could listen to him talk all day. His thick dialect, he only spoke when around memade his voice so appealing.
"Why are you so protective over me? Like with Taehyung." I chuckled at him. He rolled his eyes and covered his face. But I could see his cute bunny smile. I pulled his hands away from his face, placing one on my head telling him to play with my hair. The other hand I played with, spinning the rings on his fingers. "Tell me! Please." I whined and he chuckled.
"Because you're mine. There's this ugly feeling you get when you see someone that you admire, someone you try your hardest to make smile and have them be happy, be made happy by someone else. When you were dancing with Taehyung I wanted to scream, because one he was touching your body in a way that was anything but innocent, and two you were enjoying yourself and you never seemed that happy with me." He was looking deep into my eyes as my hands stopped their fiddling. How could he feel so deeply towards me? How could I feel so deeply towards him?
"You know you don't have to question everything, and not everything has an explanation." I sat up and Jungkook pulled me onto his lap. "If I were to try to explain how having you here right now makes me feel like the luckiest man alive, I don't think I could. Because you just being you makes me feel lucky, and the fact I can kiss you whenever I want now," He threw his head back and I giggled lightly hitting his chest.
"I hope you're not expecting me to stop picking on you." He looked at me with a fake offended face.
"And deny myself the privilege of your roasting? Never." He said leaning in to lightly kiss me. "Let's get inside it's late."
"Just a little while longer please." I kissed him passionately before laying down again. "I want to look at the moon now to."
