She was radiant as she spun into my arms. The soft lighting reflected off of her silver bangles and makeup, her hair bouncing about in its natural curls. Her eyes were wide with excitement and laughter, and she fit perfectly into my arms. I pulled her close and she looked up at me with those big hazel eyes of hers. At that moment, I knew I was a goner.
The song was soft and lovely, and we swayed comfortably to it. My hands rested on her slim waist, and it was all I could do to not kiss her. She raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow, and I hoped she couldn't see the want on my face.
"Everything okay?" She asked softly, her lips near my ear. She was pressed against me so I could feel her every movement, causing blood to rush from every part of my body. Her breath was soft and light against my skin.
"Never better," I replied, my voice low and barely audible. She smiled and rested her head on my shoulder. We swayed in a low circle until I felt her tense. She pulled away and I looked at her, confused. "What-" She cut me off and briskly walked to the table behind me.
I saw her walk up to my parents, who were arguing once again. She talked to them animatedly, aggression and sadness plain on her face. I held my breath as the three of them argued quietly, so as to not draw attention to themselves. I stepped off of the dancefloor to a nearby table to keep an eye on the situation. Everyone else was blissfully ignorant.
Around 5 songs passed by the time that they had come to a consensus. Then, I witnessed something I hadn't seen in at least 12 or 13 years; my parents brought each other into a tight embrace and shared a passionate kiss. My jaw hit the floor as Lourdes grinned over at me with that dazzling smile of hers, clearly proud of herself. I rushed across the floor to her and spun her around in my arms.
"Did you just solve 13 years of relationship problems in 30 minutes?" I asked with a shocked tone.
"I know what I'm talking about. I've been working online as an intern for an online marriage counselor recently." She revealed. "I reminded them of why they got married, about their kids, and what it's all worth. There were some arguing and disagreements, but something clicked. For the moment at least. They're going into couples counseling as soon as possible, due to my recommendation."
"God, you're..." I trailed off as something caught my eye against the canvas of the tent. Bright red spray paint. I skirted around Lourdes and hurried outside. I rounded the corner to see Lucy and some of her prissy friends giggling as they sprayed Lourdes's name, spelled incorrectly may I add, on the side of the tent. I pulled out the camera on my phone to record.
"...Perfect!" I heard Lucy exclaim. "There's no way my parents will allow that stain of society into our family. We'll remain clean. Besides the weird gay shit my brother is doing for attention, anyway. I bet the wedding isn't even valid." My blood boiled as I stormed up to her.
"And what the hell will mum say when I tell her about this?" I asked furiously as Lucy slipped the spray can into her purse. Her friends whirled around and started tittering about to fix their hair and dresses. Lucy rolled her eyes.
"You have no proof, so she'll take it out on Lourdes instead. I mean, come on. Look at her! She doesn't fit into our class in the slightest." Lucy wiped her hands on a wet towel to remove the red taint from her skin. I aimed the camera directly at her with a smirk.
"Say goodbye to your privilege, Lucy," I teased, capturing her shocked and angry face. She jumped towards me violently, trying to snatch the phone from my hand. I had a decent bit of height on her, so it was easy to keep the phone out of her reach. She screamed in irritation, drawing a few curious attendees outside. Unfortunately for her, that included our parents and a none-too-happy Sawyer. I grabbed Lucy by the arm so she couldn't run, and her friends fled to avoid confrontation.
