*Present Day*

We ended up grabbing a couple more people and setting up a small camp on top of the quarry. I didn't feel to comfortable around these people since I didn't know them so I set up my tent away from everyone. Apparently someone else had the same idea because there was another tent when I went back after grabbing my bag filled with clothes. I dropped it off and started back towards the middle of the camp. "Alright. We are gonna head out and get some wood. Anyone interested in helping meet here in ten minutes."

I stood there and waited and after a few minutes another man walked towards me and I knew he wanted to address me. I held out my hand he took it. "I'm Morales. That's my family over there." He said and I smiled. "Natalie." I said and we shook hands. "It was nice meeting you. Are you going to help get the wood for the fire?" He asked and I nodded. "You are?" I heard Shane behind me and I sighed.

I turned to face him and he just watched me. "Yes Shane. I am going to help. This sexist shit better not start up just because the dead are coming back to life." I said and Shane smirked and agreed. I heard footsteps behind me. "Is this little beauty going out into the big bad woods?" Merle's raspy voice asked and I laughed. "Yes Merle. I'm not scared of the "big bad woods". I grew up in them." I said and Shane looked down and snickered. "Okay honey." He said sarcastically and I rolled my eyes.

"Alright. We are gonna split up into three groups. T-dog and Glenn. Merle and Morales. Daryl and Natalie. Is everyone okay with their partners?" Shane said and I sighed at my partner. Merle obviously had a problem about being partnered up with a "taco bender" but that was to be expected. He was told to suck it up by Shane and we headed out.

I expected Daryl to just go a different direction but he actually stopped and waited for me while Shane told me to stay safe. We walked into the woods and I looked around to see if I saw any of those things (which Glenn said he called them walkers and that sounds pretty good to me) but I didn't see anything that looked like they had even been here.

I watched as Daryl stopped dead in his tracks. I stopped behind him and I watched as he shot a squirrel. He walked forward and got the arrow out of the tree and he looked back. "Almost forgot ya were there, so damn quiet." He said and I smiled slightly. "Couldn't really forget about you since you shoot every goddamn animal we come across." He said and I watched as his eyes glimmered in the sunshine. He handed me the small axe we had and He kept a look out while I chopped some branches off. I swung back to get a good hit at the last branch I could carry and I felt a hand on my arm. My skin tingled all the way up from the spot he touched me and I turned around. "Try not to hit me in the head with an axe." He said and he walked back to whatever he was doing.

I cut the last branch off and I looked up to see the sun was starting to set. Daryl had about four or five squirrels on him and I tried to carry all the branches but they were really heavy and I was trailing far behind Daryl. He turned to look at me. "Here." He said and he swung his crossbow on his back and held out his arms. "No, I got it." I said and I shifted and a few branches fell to the ground. I sighed as Daryl came over and lifted them out of my arms. His arm grazed my hand and my hand felt like it was on fire. I smirked. "Fine. But if you get to carry the wood, then I get to carry the crossbow." I said and Daryl shoot his head.

"Hell no." He said and I smirked. "Aww come on! I know how to handle it. I used to love shooting the one at the range my brother took me to." I said and my face fell. Daryl watched me and he put the wood down. I looked at me and he started biting his thumb nail. "He dead?" He asked and I sighed and nodded. He looked down and back up. He lifted his crossbow from his back and reluctantly handed it over. "One shot. That's it." He said and I smiled.

I lifted the crossbow, getting used to the weight, and lifted it to look out the scope. I looked back at Daryl to see him watching me with his arms crossed. "The knot in the tree." I said and he nodded slightly. I aimed at the center of the knot and held my finger on the trigger. I shot and watched as the arrow flew through the air and hit the knot dead on. I turned, smiling proudly, and handed Daryl back his crossbow. He looked at me and nodded slightly like he was impressed and I smiled. "Come on. 's head back." He said and I nodded.

Once we got back we handed over the wood and I helped Glenn set the fire. Once we were done we started making dinner and soon enough we were all eating and laughing. "Come on baby brother. 'Bout you tell us the story when you saw your Chupacabra." I heard Merle say and Daryl declined. "No, Daryl, why don't you enlighten us on your sighting of this completely made up creature." I said sarcastically and he narrowed his eyes.

He started telling us about this whole thing reminds him of when he was out squirrel hunting one day and this creature came out of nowhere and it was eating an animal but he wasn't completely eating it. It was only eating the neck. It was sucking the blood from it's neck. Carl was snuggled up next to his mother but I could tell he was scared shitless. I giggled as he finished up and I looked over at Sophia and Carl. "Don't worry guys. Daryl's just making it up to scare us." I said and Daryl shook his head. "The hell you talking 'bout? I ain't making this up." He said but I looked at him and my gaze told him to shut up.

He stayed quiet after that and we finished our dinner and everyone was off to bed. Dale was keeping watch so I decided to go and chill in my tent. I sat down after getting changed and just started ruffling through my bags. I found a book at the bottom and opened it up. I started reading it when I heard a rustling outside my tent. I quickly stood up and pulled my knife and waited. I heard it again and I was about to open up my tent.

I slowly unzipped it and pulled the body inside my tent. I hovered over it and looked down to see that it was just Daryl. I sighed and got off of him and he rubbed his shoulder. "What the hell." I whisper-yelled at him but we were far enough away that they wouldn't hear us if we just talked normally. "You were making a bunch of noise and I was coming over to tell you to knock it off. Keepin' me up." He said and I sighed. I shooed him out and put my book away. I decided I would try and sleep.

It didn't work so well.
