I sit at my brown worn out desk. Flicking the corner of the Manila folder. As you can tell, I'm extremely bored. But as soon as I was about to stand up and do something I got a knock on my door. "Good morning chief, I've made your coffee" my secretary, Karima says as she hands me it. "Thanks K." I take a long sip "what's the deal today?" I ask she adjusted her glasses and looked at her clipboard. "That new officer should be coming today. You also have to make your morning speech to the officers." I groan and roll my eyes. Rookies are always so shy and nervous, they need to get it together! They're police officers! I stand up and walk out the door, not before telling Karima thank you.
I walk to the main room and immediately all chatter stops. I love that so much. I stand at the front of the room and all eyes are on me. I clear my throat and begin my speech. "Good morning. Today as always is a day we need to succeed in. I want you all to be prepared for any cases today. Also we have a rookie joining us today" I heard a couple of whines "now you all must remember you were a rookie at one point too. So treat them the same. That's all for this morning. Let's keep this city safe!" I finish my speech and go back into my office.
Since the day was moving slow I decided to do some paperwork. Then Karima phones my office "Chief? The rookie is here" I sigh "alright send them back.." a few minutes pass and someone knocks on the door. "Come in.." I call out. I look at the door and see a very attractive person at the door.. woah y/n, you remember what happened last time.. "uh chief? I'm the new officer, Aster." Aster? What kind of name is that? "Yeah I know who you are, have a seat." He sits down. Little did I know that greeting was only the beginning.

Aster and I talked a lot throughout his time at the station. But today was different. We were sitting in my office and he had just told me a story. "Haha! That's so crazy!" I say "I know right! It was really unexpected! But hey...can I uh...ask you something?" I look at him in confusion "yeah anything!" He had a light pink across his face "do you wanna hang out after work or something?" I didn't know what to say. I can't do this again. Not after what happened before.

I was on a case. At this point I was still a regular officer, I made the mistake of being involved romantically with my coworker. But I loved him. He was everything I could've asked for... but everything crumbled down in two seconds. Someone had threatened to bomb a building so we had to check it out. A few people and myself were outside the building while my boyfriend and the others were inside. We scoped the area outside and the coast was clear. We were still looking around when the walkie talkie started so speak "We found the bomb! Repeat we have found the bomb!" They yell into the device. "Disable it and get out of there!" I yell back "We can't! It's surrounded by bulletproof glass!" My eyes widened "Then get out of there! Now!" It goes silent for a moment "The door is locked!" I start shaking. "Break the window! Quick!" I hear banging in the background "there's 30 seconds left!" The banging gets more frantic "take cover!" Everyone ducks and building explodes. Killing everyone in the building on the process. Including my boyfriend..

I suppose I started crying because he looked alarmed "did I do something wrong?" I shook my head and wiped my tears "no, no you're fine but I'm gonna have to decline your offer.." he looks dejected and I sorta feel bad. "I- Okay. But would it be okay to ask why?" I get myself together and stand "relationships between coworkers are forbidden." I say. It wasn't like it was a lie. He stands as well "can't you change that? You're the chief!" I shake my head "look, you're a nice guy but my mind won't let me forget what I went through." I start to walk away "y/n-" "that's chief l/n to you" I could see him building up anger and I didn't expect what he did next. (Y'all probably did tho lol ) he grabbed my arm and kissed me. I was so shocked yet so happy. A lot of feelings in one moment. We pulled back and he looked me in my e/c eyes and said "you can't let your past define your future, we can make this work.." I sigh and lean my head on his "I guess it's worth a try"
