Chapter 20

Shadow's POV

Whilst me and (Y/N) are walking, I didn't make my guard down. Mephiles could and would pop out anytime. My eyes are glaring as I scan to see if there's any traps. But as we were walking, I don't see anything. I looked beside me and noticed (Y/N) was tired. I stopped walking and decided we should rest for a moment.

"What's wrong? We should go, Shadow" She said

"No" I quickly refused

"But-"

"It's alright. We had a long walk. You need to rest.  Or else, when you force yourself to walked even if your tired that'll be a bigger problem" I explained in my defense

She only nodded and looked down.

"Am I... causing you problem?"She sounded hesitant as she asked

I rose a brow.

"What? What kind of a question is that? Of course you're not. Nothing's your fault. It's because of that damn bastard that's why we're here" I said

"Are you being such a softie now, Shadow? Suddenly caring for a worthless human?"

I stood up in my fighting stance recognizing the owner of that voice. (Y/N) was aware too. In a blink of an eye, Mephiles was standing in front of us, still on his crystalline form.

"Those humans. They are the ones who took your happiness awag. They are the ones who made you suffer for years. They are the ones you held grudges for. And now, you're being soft just for her? A mere, useless human? Why don't you just come with me Shadow? We can avenge ourselves together. You and I understand the same pain"

"Cut it off, Mephiles, I'm tired hearing the sane bullshit for the second time. No matter what, my answer's still going to be a no!"I growled

He narrowed his eyes at me.

"How foolish. Very well, let me test you"

Suddenly, shadows behind him started to appear. I blocked my hand in front of (Y/N).

I then took her hand. We're going to fight together

(With Sonic and Silver)

Sonic's POV

Me and Silver still have the same number of our emeralds. I can't help but worry on what's happening to Shadow and (Y/N). Are they alright?

Of course Sonic! They obviously are! Don't think of something like that! As long as Shadow's there, they're fine. You know (Y/N) too! She's a tough girl!

"Look!" Silver said pointing at a two figures

I suddenly took on fighting stance. Immediately alerted of what might come. But as I noticed the two figures are familiar, I approached them. Didn't drop my guard down though.

My eyes the widened as I saw who they were.

I was quite surprised to see Shadow and (Y/N). Shadow was clutching his chest. His face looked like he was in pain. I was about to ask myself what had happened until I heard Mephiles was laughing maniacally.

Shadow was bleeding.

"This is the last, Shadow! I'll end you here and hedgehog, along with that pathetic girl's life!" said Mephiles as he pointed at (Y/N)

"No!" (Y/N) cried out

Suddenly, the seven emeralds surrounded us. Silver, Shadow and I looked at each other and grinned. We know what is going to happen.

We're turning into our super form

"Well Mephiles, I guess you were wrong" Shadow smirked

"In this battle us, this will be the end!" I said

"Wake up, (Y/N), wake up"

"It's all done now"

"We finally defeated him"

(Y/N) slowly opened her eyes. She saw her friends surrounded her.

"Phew, finally" Shadow sighed

"Did you guys... Won?" (Y/N) weakly asked

Shadow nodded and they never expected something will happen.

He smiled.

"Wow! I thought you can't smile Shadow!" Sonic commented

"Shut up" Shadow growled, his lips curving into a sudden frown

We all laughed. Vanilla and Cream hugged (Y/N). The younger one buried her face in (Y/N)'s neck as she cried

"We were so worried" said Cream as she let out a few sobs

(Y/N) gently wiped her tears.

"It's okay, big sis. I'm fine now" Cream said

Vanilla smiled at the sight.

Unexpectedly, the seven chaos emeralds all surrounded (Y/N). They quickly became worried and confused as of why.

"Why are they- what's happening?"

For the first time, Shadow never felt so scared on his life once again. Dreading that someone important in his life will be gone again. (Y/N) heard the Emerald's message. She tried to put up a smile, but then she couldn't control the tears that was streaming down her face. They became even more worried.

"Guys, do you remember when I was first at here? I was so amazed in this world. Your world. I thought I would never see bright colors again. I thought I will always see gloomy, dull colors" she bit her lips, trying to prevent some sobs to come out

"But you guys came, and brought happiness in me. Happiness,that I never felt with someone or anyone before. My trust, who had been broken for years, was now back. The old me, was now back. The cheery me, happy me. But,"

Then everyone's heart was crushed. They finally understood and realized what was going on.

"But all good things must come to an end. Nothing remains permanent, like this" (Y/N) continued, finally letting out her sobs

"Even so, I will always remember you guys. The happy memories you gave to me will never fade. Even if I'm back to my own world. I hope you won't forget about me too"

(Y/N)'s figure was starting to fade.

"Shadow, Sonic, Silver, everyone, thank you. You all made me feel loved, cared and important. Because of you all, I felt the meaning of life again" said (Y/N), giving them a closed eye smile

"Shadow" (Y/N) called

"I love you"

The three words broke Shadow's heart.

"(Y/N)..." He sobbed

"Please, promise me you and Sonic won't ever fight again. Always be happy. Keep on smiling" (Y/N) said

For the last time, (Y/N) felt Shadow's lips smashed into hers, holding her hand, and whispering 'I love you too' in her ear. Shadow hated the fact that this was the first and last time he said this to the person he love. He regretted the fact that he only told her now. (Y/N) smiled in contentment. Even though she'll be back in her world.

"Goodbye, my love. Thank you for everything" Shadow slowly, sadly whispered as she disappeared

Sonic and the others sobbed as (Y/N) was now gone.
