Allegiant: Is This The End?

Chapter 3

Tobias

I have just finished eating a muffin when I see Tris running towards me. I see a huge smile across her face. I wonder what happened. She comes to me and our lips collide.

 She still has that huge smile on her face. Whoa, she’s never been so happy.

 ‘Guess what happened?’ Tris asks. I reply, ‘I don’t have the faintest idea.’ ‘Come with me, we are going to see if the others are awake.’

 Soon enough we reach the dormitory. Christina and Cara are awake but the boys are still sleeping. At that moment Tris shouts, her voice filled with excitement, it is as if she will explode any moment.

‘Wake up you two! Good morning girls!’ Tris yells at them. Christina shoots her a questioning look and then to me.

Tris is acting like Christina, you know what I mean. Christina asks, ‘What did you two do last night? What happened to you Tris? Why are you grinning like a monkey?’ before she can continue she is cut off by Tris ‘Get ready I want to show you guys something.’

I reply, ‘Why don’t you tell us Tris? I don’t like suspense.’ ‘Well it will be better if you see it for yourself. Now hurry up guys.’

 All of us shoot an irritating look towards Tris but they get ready anyways and we follow Tris. Once I know where we are going I get knots in my stomach.

 We are heading towards the infirmary, towards Uriah… I keep my head down. Tris stopped moving so I guess we have reached.

Then I hear a squeal at that I have to look up and I see a smiling Uriah looking at us.

 I close my eyes and take a deep breath, this cannot be real but when I open my eyes, nothing has changed. This is real… Then I go and give Uriah a hug, I can’t believe he’s back.

 ‘I ca..n’t bre..athe Tobias.’ Oops. I look around and see everyone is happy and talking to him, the most amazing thing, Peter is smiling too. I thought that boy could never smile.

The doctor comes in, he says we can take Uriah along with us but if he feels uncomfortable we have to bring him back.

 At that moment I ask him ‘How long have you been conscious?’ ‘A few days, it’s just that I was hardly awake, feeling kind of lifeless, I was too lazy to keep my eyes open. You are not going to get rid of me so easily.’ ‘Of course not. We weren’t ready to leave you so easily.’

 After a while, Tris takes him to Mathew so that he can inoculate him against the memory serum. Then we all head to eat something I already ate but I don’t mind eating again.

After this we decide to go through our plans again. Since, Uriah is no longer in coma we have decided not to go back to the city.

 We all sit together in a circle. ‘We’ refers to Caleb, Christina, Cara, Peter, Uriah and me. I am still thinking about the dream. Suddenly, I ask Peter who is sitting on my right, ‘Why didn’t you inoculate yourself against the memory serum.’ This question is bugging me eversince.

He replies, ‘I want to be a better person, I want to forget what I have done to people. I can be a better person if my memory is taken away’

‘Do you really want to be a better person?’

 ‘Yes’

 ‘What will you do to be a better person, will you give your life away for others?’

 He does not respond .

Tris sits beside me and tells the group that there was an emergency meeting and they are going to reset ‘the experiment’ next week. Perfect that gives us more time to rethink our plans and take them towards perfection.
