Chapter 6

Tris

I am walking towards Matthew’s personal heaven, his office.

Tobias was completely amazed by my idea.

The thing that I realized now is that once the bureau finds out what’s happening, then it won’t be good for us or our friends in the experiment. So either way we have to erase the bureau’s memory. To top it off, most of them are GPs like me. Secondly, right now I don’t even know that my idea is possible also or not.

I reach his office, I knock twice on the door.

I hear some voices inside. I don’t recognize the second voice who is talking to Matthew. Sounds more like arguing.

Matthew says, ‘Come in.’

I enter. The other person leaves. ‘Hello Matthew. Is someone else over here?’

‘Nope. It’s just us.’

‘Okay. I just wanted to discuss about that…’

‘Not here.’

Then he takes me to another place, somewhere safer to talk.

‘Now tell me, what did you want to talk about?’

Then I tell him the whole plan. At first he doesn’t say anything. Then he opens his mouth to say something and stops again. Basically it was awkward. Finally he replies, ‘It’s a great idea but I don’t know if it’s possible. I will try and tell you by tomorrow, maybe?’

‘Sure but try your best to tell it by tomorrow because time is dwindling.’

‘Could you call Caleb and Cara?  I could use their help.’

I shudder at Caleb’s name. ‘Umm…Sure. Should I tell them right now? Please explain my idea to them.’

‘Sure, tell them to meet me, at 7 at my office.’

‘Okay, bye. Tell me as soon as possible.’

He nods his head and goes somewhere. Well, that went well! Still there is no guarantee that it will work. Right now I am finding Cara. I spot her, she is talking to Christina. Just as I am nearing them, I hear his name. ‘Will’ I stop dead in my track. The pictures of me killing him, flood me. I feel as if I am about to faint, to fall but someone steadies me. Caleb. He brings another wave of memories, us in Abnegation, the Choosing Ceremony, in Erudite headquarters, when he betrayed me, every single memory. He makes me sit on the nearest bed.

‘Beatrice, are you alright?’

This brings Cara’s and Christina’s attention towards me.

‘Yeah.’

‘You sure?’

‘Hmm’

‘Do you want to tell me what happened?’

I don’t think I want to tell him so I remain quiet. Cara asks me, ‘Tris did you want something?’

I nod, ‘ I just wanted to tell you guys that Matthew wants to meet you and Caleb at 7 today, in his office. It is important’

They nod. Cara and Christina leave talking about something before they met me, leaving me alone with Caleb. I don’t know but I feel that even though he betrayed me and did things worse than that, he still is my brother. I want to forgive him but I don’t know if I can do that, I need to talk to him but about what, I don’t know. I just want to talk, like the times in Abnegation. Erudite destroyed everything, but it also lead us to the bureau which is unfortunately worse than that, Erudite’s crave for hunger and power lead them to nowhere.
