It's cold. So cold. The bruises hurt. Everything hurts. My whole body is numb. The beating stopped. It's Bucky's turn now. I'm lying in the closet awaiting my best friend. My only friend. There are bruises on my face and blood dripping from my forehead. It's so painful. Bucky's back. His beating is finished. He has a black eye and blood has dripped from his forehead into his silky brown hair. He came and gave me a hug. "Everything is going to be okay, I promise, he's just drunk again." whispered Bucky in his soothing voice. "How do you know? You always say that." I whispered while sobbing into his warm chest. "Look Hazel, If I can survive, so can you. You're the strongest person I know. Here..." Bucky reassured me. He then reached around his neck and took off his necklace. It was leather with a metal red star dangling off of it. He tied it around my neck. "Now you'll always be safe. Now you'll always have a part of me to protect you." Bucky gave me a faint smile as I buried my head into his chest while our foster carer got drunk and smashed things.
There was no point trying to fight back when the beatings happen, because then it would just get worse. One time, Bucky stood up for me when I was in the middle of a beating, he ended up getting the worst beating of his life. The pain never ends when you're with an abusive foster carer. I can't even use my powers, because me or Bucky would get a beating. We are defenceless. We are both thirteen years old and we can't even stand up for ourselves without involving pain.
My long blonde hair is matted and dirty from not being able to clean myself. My regular outfit is dirty because I have no other clothes. All I have is a pair of ripped grey jeans, a black t-shirt, a grey zip-up jacked, my black trainers and my leather bracelet which my mother bought me. Bucky had no better. All Bucky had was a pair of black jeans, a grey t-shirt, a black zip-up jacket and a pair of old black trainers. His lovely brown hair was tangled and greasy.
