I let go and followed Gloria into the bathroom where she turned on the shower so steaming hot water flooded out. The steam hit my face like a wave of clean air that I hadn’t witnessed in a long time. “Here dear, I’ll step out so you can undress then pass me your clothes through the door so I can wash them.” Gloria said to me. I looked at my clothes and thought what it would be like to have clean clothes. I nodded and smiled at her. She stepped out of the room as I started to undress. My arms were covered in bruises and cuts. My legs were covered in large bruises. I looked at the cabinet and opened it. I grabbed a strawberry scented shampoo and conditioner and a coconut scented shower gel. I put them on the showers shelf then picked up my clothes and passed them through the slightly open door. I felt Gloria grab them off of me and I shut the door. I took off Buck's necklace and gently placed it on the windowsill.

I looked around and saw the steam flooding out of the shower. I looked around the shower curtain and saw the water. I stepped in slowly letting the water hit my bruised legs. I then stepped in completely and froze as the warm water hit my body. The warm water was like a thousand knives were going to stab me but when they hit my body they turned to the boiling water that was coming out of the showerhead. I reached for the shampoo bottle and opened it. The strong scent of strawberries hit my nose. The smell was amazing and sweet. I poured a blob of shampoo on my hand and smelled it again. I then lifted my hand up and rubbed it in my filthy hair. Soon my hair was covered in strawberry scented shampoo and I was massaging my head with my fingers, treasuring  the moment. I washed the shampoo out of my hair and repeated the process with the sweet strawberry scented conditioner. Once I washed the conditioner out of my hair I grabbed the coconut shower gel. I washed my chest and my back, then moved on to my legs and my arms. I moved my hands slowly around the bruises carefully making sure not to press down on them to hard. When I finished washing myself I stepped out of the shower and let my clean feet hit the warm bath mat. I reached over to the radiator and grabbed the warm towel. It was so soft. I wrapped it around me trying to take in all of its warmth. Finally, I grabbed Buck's necklace off the windowsill and wrapped it around my wrist.

I stepped out of the bathroom with the towel wrapped around me and walked down the small hallway back into the bedroom. Buck was sitting on the bed with a blanket wrapped around him. I looked at him with a smile and he instantly smiled back. "Don't even try to laugh, because it is not funny Hazel." Bucky said, smiling at me. I instantly burst into laughter. Gloria came back into the bedroom and saw me wrapped in my towel. "Oh, Hazel, it's so nice to see you clean. Bucky, I just washed your clothes and they're in the dryer now with Hazels. Now Bucky, you go get in the shower and I'll blow dry Hazels hair." she looked at us both and smiled.

Bucky got up and exited the room and then entered the bathroom. I heard the bathroom door shut softly behind him. "Now Hazel, come sit on the bed." Gloria said softly. As I sat on the bed she went over to her dresser and opened a draw to reveal a real hairbrush and a real hairdryer. She plugged the hairdryer in and turned it on. The noise was loud but the warm air comforting and drying my scalp was calming and relaxing. She brushed my now blonde and clean hair gently while blow drying it at the same time. Once my hair was fully dry Gloria brushed it once more and split my parting down the middle. “I’m just going to go check if yours and Bucky's clothes are dry and then I’ll be straight back up,  we can't have you sitting in a towel forever, can we now?” she joked lovingly. She left the bedroom and left me alone.

I looked at my face in the mirror and the bruises and gashes which it held. I touched my largest cut at the top of my head and sighed, then looked at my forehead and the scars it held. “You know, it's not that bad.” said Bucky as he sneaked into the bedroom and stood the opposite side of the bed with a white towel wrapped around him. I stared at him then sighed. “Don’t creep up on me like that. And I know it doesn't look bad.” I said, smiling at him. In that moment Gloria walked into the bedroom with a neatly folded pile of clean clothes. “Here we are.” Gloria said as she placed down the pile of clean clothes next to me on the bed. I used one hand to hold my towel together and used the other to reach for my clothes.

I got up and re-entered the bathroom to be hit by the strong scent of coconuts. I shut the door and got changed into my clean clothes. I heard the hairdryer come on and heard Gloria start to hum as she dried Buck's hair. Once I was fully dressed I took Bucky's necklace off of my wrist and placed it around my neck. I sniffed my jasmine scented clothes once more then stepped out of the bathroom. Bucky was waiting outside with the door with the white towel still wrapped around him. One hand was holding the towel together the other was holding his clean clothes. His hair had been fully dried. It was a dark brown at about ear-length now it was dry. I smiled when I walked past him as he entered the bathroom to change. When he stepped out he looked like a completely new Bucky. He was clean. Like me. We both looked like completely new people. It felt so amazing to be clean once again. “There, now you look lovely.” Gloria said happily. We looked at her with the biggest smiles ever. “Thank you” we both said in sync with each other. We could not thank her enough. We both stepped up to her and gave her a tight hug and thanked her again.
