The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Farkas x Reader: Don't Stray
Gender: Female
(Y/N)'S POV
"She has to go!" snapped Vilkas. Vilkas was arguing with Caitlin, the current Harbinger, again, and probably for the last time. I knew he had just about enough of me. I knew he thought I was a 'disgrace' towards the Companions. I didn't blame him, though. I didn't exactly have a clean past. No one would expect an orphan, who was held a suspect in a family's death, to be worthy of a good name, let alone get along with anyone inside of the Companions. They were wrong, though. Yes, I'm an orphan, but I wasn't the reason. And I did get along with some of the members. I gotten along very well with Aela the Huntress and Farkas, amongst a few others.
Farkas was, without a doubt, my closest friend. There were the occasional argument, but they were small and both of us would get over them real quick. Those little argument would eventually be little jokes of ours. These were things that caused Vilkas to get upset, especially towards me. I had always sworn that whatever I did was an honest mistake. He never took it lightly, and Farkas always had stepped in to defend me. I never wanted him to, but he always did. It was almost natural for him. Farkas was always there for me, as I would for him. And when I would be at my lowest, he would bring me back up with our most dim-witted joke. And I loved him for that. Though, it would be to late to tell him now.
When it got dark one night and everyone was fast sleep, I took a bag of essentials and went through the main doors. As previously noted, Vilkas didn't want me. I'm not sure what the Harbinger had told him, but whatever it was, I wouldn't be there in the morning to find out. I got closer to the gates, and soon enough, one of the guards had stopped me. "Heading out?" he asked. "Yes, but I won't come back. Mind telling the Companions when you see them?" I asked. "I'll tell. Be careful out there." I thanked him, then left. As I left, I realized that I wasn't sure where to go. My only goal was to leave without telling anyone, then remembered what the Harbinger told me once.
"As I always tell my kids, 'don't stray far from the pack.' It's best to stay together than to be separated. No one is strong when they're left alone." (A/N: Says the one who prefers to work/play alone.)
Obviously, I had 'disobeyed' from what she had said. I traveled northeast, towards Windhelm, where the Harbinger once 'ruled' beside Ulfric Stormcloak before he was killed. Brunwulf Free-Winter became the current Jarl of Windhelm once Ulfric died. Just outside of the city, I bought a piece of land from the Jarl's steward and built myself a small shack, which had only taken me a month and a half to build. As for the furniture, all I had was a bedroll and chest. I had often went to the inn to buy myself something to eat. "Must you continue to hunt every bounty?" asked the steward. "If it means I can buy myself something to eat, then yes." Bounty hunting was a temporary job. It had seemed that groups of bandits came about once every full moons. Eventually that became tiresome and I eventually went into the life of crime and death, which is something the Companions stood against by.
First, it was the Thieves Guild. First couple of times were, in a sense, easy. Brynjolf, the second-in-command, had let me in once I showed my worth. To my surprise, the Harbinger, Caitlin, was their leader, their Guild Master. "Milady! I didn't expect you to be in the lead of the guild."
"Where do you think I get the extra coin?" she laughed. "I see you both are well acquainted," interrupted Brynjolf. "We go back a long way," added Caitlin. She turned her attention back to me, allowing Brynjolf to excuse himself. "How have you been, my child? Haven't heard from you in months, especially after you left," she asked. "I'm sure requesting to join the guild would be an answer," I told her.
