Vault-Tech Rep x Reader: Prepare for the Future!

Gender: Neutral

(Y/N)'S POV

I sat on the stairs in the hotel of Goodneighbor. The screen of my pip-boy barely glimmered as I looked at it. In an upper floor, I heard George talk to the newcomer. From what I heard, her name was Linda and she recently exited a vault northwest of Boston. Apparently she was looking for a missing kid, a toddler. Who in the right mind would steal a baby?

I then spotted her coming down the stairs opposite of me, George coming down on my side. As soon as he passed me, I grabbed his hand. "Where ya going?" I panicked. It was odd, me asking where he had planned to go. Before the bombs fell, when we were still working for Vault-Tech, we weren't exactly the best of pals. We always argued, and we always bickered. Occasionally we stayed silent with an intense angry vibe between us. And, for some god-forsaken reason, I always had his ass backed up. That included whenever other Vault-Tech personnel came to berate him, and whenever he needed to be reminded of the Vault-Tech 'rules'.

"Hey, G. No smoking, alright? Don't need another beating."

"Don't worry, Crony."

Sometimes he had mine. Once, literally. I had only assumed Vault-Tech understood our relationship, since they posted me as his personal 'bodyguard'. I wasn't necessarily one, I only ever told idiots to back off. That's about it. Everyone else, well, they thought something else was going on. When the bombs fell, neither of us were allowed in a vault. George was threatened by a military soldier, and Vault-Tech never posted me inside of one. Both of us thought we were goners for good when the mushroom cloud appeared. We don't know how we managed to survive, we just did. And I was somewhat glad we did.

"Sanctuary Hill!" he said happily. "Come with me! I want you to be there!" George began to pull me up, so I can stand. To be honest, I was worried. George wasn't exactly happy there when we were sheltered there. "Wait! George, think this through," I said as I stood up, "What if they don't accept either of us? We're ghouls. They might just be like those in Diamond City."

"It's been over two centuries. We're still alive, aren't we?"

I looked at him with concern. We were only alive because I was the one covering his ass. Yes, both of us were ghouls and we weren't exactly happy about it, much like all the others in Goodneighbor. Like the others, we were insulted and berated. And as before, I protected George with all my life. It was the only thing I knew even before the bombs fell. With a smile, George pulled me out of the hotel and out of Goodneighbor. I didn't exactly want to leave. I liked Goodneighbor. Everyone understood that they didn't 'fit in' nearly everywhere. But if he was right, then might as well give the place a second chance.

George and I came into Sanctuary and found it to be crowded with settlers. It was busy and nearly lively. Ghouls and smoothskins walked amongst each other, no fighting nor insulting whatsoever. "It's so... different," I said as we looked around. Both of us explored a bit, then came across an empty, unoccupied store. The store was well decorated. A few unclothed mannequins stood at the center of the room. A bit farther behind the mannequins was a counter with 'general' labeled on it. George walked behind it, trying to get a feel out of it. A looked around a little more. Shelves covered in a variety of things occupied the room. I then came upon a door that led to a bedroom. It was a simple room that had a surprisingly clean queen-sized bed. A twin bed was stationed at the corner. "Hey, rep," a voice greeted. With a gun in hand, I walked back out the door and to George, only to find the survivor of the vault up the hill.

"It's good to see you two here," she said happily. "Looks like a good settlement," I said. "Feels like one," George added. "So, are you two settling here?" she asked. I looked at George. He looked back, with a look that asked. "Wherever you go, I go," I told him. With a smile, George quickly told her we'd stay. She seemed more than pleased. Her and one of the minutemen, her 'second-in-command', showed us around. The hotel was near the entrance. Surprisingly, the upper floors managed to stay put on the once nice home's roof. Next to it was the clinic. The clinic was well decorated. There were plenty of clean, well kept couches, and hospital beds for patients. At the other side of Sanctuary was the bar. It was rather large, it being two stories. The bottom floor worked as it should. Tables were scattered about and music played on the radio. Above was more like a lounge. "Could use a drink," I said bluntly.

Linda, the Sole Survivor of Vault 111, laughed. "Go on ahead." I smiled, and immediately went to get a drink. As I drank away, I heard Linda telling George about the general store, said we could keep it if we like. "Just like old times!" I said aloud, smiling. George smiled back. He happily accepted the offer. For some time, we stayed at the bar, drinking away with the memories. To be honest, I drank a little more that I expected, more than George. "Now we're prepared for the future." Once the bar closed, the two of us happily went back to the store, where the beds were situated. The vibe here made us feel different, almost safe. I knew being here in Sanctuary made George feel happy. He was the whole time we were here. When we got to the store, George happily went it. I slowly followed behind. I looked at every item we were now supposed to sell. "Coming to bed?" he asked. "Hm? Yeah." I continued to looked around, examining everything closely. George stepped closer to me. "What's wrong?"

"This is yours now..."

"No, ours..." George said. He then held onto my hand softly. "Without you, there's no future."

"Now we're prepared for it," I smiled.
