This isn't how I thought this chapter would turn out, but I like it. Also I like rewrote this 4 times.
TW: Addiction, implied abuse?
Casey sighed as he walked home by himself. The air was cold, making everyone's cheeks rosy. It was also cold enough to see your own breath. Casey enjoyed the cold, it reminded him of himself in a way. Nobody likes the cold, but it will always come back eventually.
Casey walked into his house, smelling the strong smell of alcohol and most likely mold. Their house was kind of shitty, since John became a drunk. Casey didn't know how John even did his work, he was like always drunk. Their house wasn't loud, which was a good sign. John must be at work. "Cam, are you home?"
Cameron came running out of the living room and smiled brightly at his older brother. "Hi, Casey!"
Casey smiled, despite not feeling like it. "Where's Jo-.. Dad?" Casey asked. Cameron still called John dad, even though he knew that John wasn't a good dad.
"He went to get groceries, I think." The boy replied.
Since when did John buy groceries? It was usually Casey who had to buy groceries for the house.
Casey decided to push those thoughts aside and pay attention to Cameron. Cameron was smiling brightly at his big brother; he was his hero.
"I love you, Casey." Cameron said, hugging him.
Casey hugged him back. "I know. I love you too, Cam,"
Casey jumped at the sound of the front door opening.
John's home.
Casey let go of Cameron and turned around, looking at his father. John offered a small smile to Casey, who made a confused face.
"Cam," John said. "Can you take these groceries to the kitchen for me. I need to talk to Casey."
"Ya," Cameron said, taking the groceries from his dad. He walked into the kitchen, leaving Casey and his dad alone to 'talk'.
"What's going on?" Casey asked. "You're acting.. different."
John walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch. He patted the couch beside him. "Come sit.."
Despite not wanting to, Casey obliged and sat down next to his dad. Casey didn't say anything, waiting for his dad to speak.
"I've started going to an addiction treatment therapist," John said, running his hand though his hair. His hair was starting to grey. "I'm going to get better. I know that I've made.. so many horrible choices.. and I'm so so sorry, Casey.. I do love you.. and i-i.."
Casey furrowed his eyebrows. "Dad.. you're actually going to a therapist?.." he asked in disbelief.
His dad nodded. "I want to get better for you and Cam. You boys deserve it.." he said.
Casey didn't know if he could trust his dad, but he had a little bit of hope, so Casey did what neither of them thought he would and hugged his dad for the first time in forever.
