Elvis: Girls

Every night was 10 times better than the night before. My pockets got heavier, the nights got shorter and the girls got louder. Scotty, Bill and I still slept in the same room and it was hard to sleep with a fit of giggles and thrashing around in the bed next to you. One morning after a loud night, I woke early and made breakfast for myself. I was halfway finished when Scotty emerged in a simple robe looking like a walking zombie. " Morning." He croaked as he made his way past me to the kitchen counter to make himself a cup of coffee. I nodded. " Where's Bill?" I asked, eyes on my food. He chuckled. " Probably entertaining some of your fans." I shook my head as he sat across me with his cup of coffee. " Why don't you bring some girls for yourself?" I laughed. " I got my own girl at home waiting for me." He nodded his head taking a sip. " There's a difference between your girl, and your fans." I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. " You're girl is the one who has your heart and your fans are your companions." He continued swirling the tip of his finger in his coffee.

That night, during the show, Scotty's words danced around in my mind. When a girl would catch my eye, I would give her a smoldering look and a wink her way as I huskily groaned the words into the mic. During the last song, I noticed as a beautiful blonde made her way to the front of the stage. Many a times had she caught and held my gaze. It was like we were both mesmerized by each other. By the end of the song, as I always ended it on my knees, she did what no one had ever done before. Somehow she managed to crawl up the stage and she sat on my lap and kissed me pushing her tongue into my mouth. I pulled her off and smiled at her sheepishly as she locked her legs around my waist. I looked around for someone to held me as the girls below the stage started jeering and more of them climbed up the stage. As nervous as I was, I kept a cool face, trying to get the blonde off me as more girls closed around us. Finally, I felt strong arms pull me up and we slipped past the crowd into my dressing room. Bill and Scotty stood by the door as I gasped for air. We stood quiet for a long moment before Bill bursted in laughter. Scotty began chuckling too and I couldn't help as I joined in.

Later that night, as we were preparing to go back to the hotel, I closed my door and peeled off my shirt and began combing my hair. I heard a small thud in the corner near the window and turned around only to see nothing. I shrugged it off until I heard soft giggling. Then, I turned around slowly and walked to the corner. I stood nervously and called out. " Alright now, come out." For a moment nothing happened. And then the same beautiful blonde emerged from the corner. I sighed. " You shouldn't be here." She smiled and stepped closer to me. " My name is Ashley." I nodded holding my comb in one hand and the other in my pocket. Her eyes scanned my body and I looked around uncomfortable. She looked back up and looked me in the eyes with a smirk. " You're more beautiful up close." I nodded and pursed my lips. She came closer and reached out to brush her hand across my chest. I swallowed and said " erm, listen, you shouldn't be here darling." She only exhaled and closed the distance between us and wrapped her arms around me. Taken aback I first tried to pry her off me until she whispered " Please. Please, won't you just embrace me?" I slowly hugged her with one hand and she used to her advantage to kiss me roughly. Scotty's words are now replaying in my head and I closed my eyes and kissed her back.

I took her back to the hotel and we continued there.

The next morning, I woke up next to the blonde. I smiled and kissed her shoulders before getting up to make my way to the phone. It rang twice before a breathless June answered. " Hello?" She murmured. " Hey baby." I answered. She exhaled. " I miss you so much Elvis." I looked around before sitting down and running my hands through my hair. " I miss you too. What you been up to?" "Nothing much... I've just been out with the girls and talked a little to Aaron..." She stopped suddenly. Her breathing hitched. " Aaron? What does he want? You're not spending time with him are you?" " Don't worry about it." " Why shouldn't I? I don't know what you're doing." " Elvis!" She yelled into the receiver. " Did you really just say that to me?" I inhaled and shook my head. " I'm sorry." " If anyone should be suspicious it should be me, do you know what I have to read in the newspapers about you?" I closed my eyes. " I told you not to read that shit." " Why shouldn't I? I don't know what you're doing." She muttered icily. We both stayed silent on the line. I knew she would wait until I replied. " I'm sorry. I'm just really worried about you. I need to see you again." She sighed. " Hey. I love you okay?" " Yeah, I love you too Elvis." I sighed back onto the couch and the first thing I see is the blonde standing in the doorway with a pile of blankets covering her. I immediately hung up and she giggled, and ran my way and sat on my lap. I chuckled and wrapped my arms around her.

Later that night, I was alone in the room, Scotty and Bill were either drinking downstairs or with their own girls and I had my hands behind my head and stared at the ceiling. I missed June dearly and I don't feel guilty about sleeping with someone else. Why should I be guilty when I don't love them? Why should I be guilty when I had already given my heart to June? I shouldn't be guilty right? I sighed and turned to my side before falling asleep.

The next few nights, after every show, I would send Bill and Scotty away, and invite one or a few girls into my hotel room. Scotty and Bill would return the next day and send them away before the Colonel or anyone else came. It became a daily routine and my calls home would be held off to the next day, or the next day, or the next day. It got so that I stopped calling home for weeks. I felt guilty about it but Scotty and Bill would always tell me something else. " Don't worry about it." " They probably think you're just busy." Then they'd clank beers and punch my shoulders.

After a few months of touring many towns and sleeping with multiple girls, the colonel showed up one afternoon with great news. He arrived with many magazines with my face on them and slammed them on the coffee table beside me. " This is our last month touring. You can go home later but now" he pointed to the magazines " We got ourselves some attention." I looked at him before picking up a magazine and reading it. I scoffed and threw it down. " What kind of shit is that?" He chuckled before lighting a cigar. " Son, it may seem bad, but they," he pointed at the magazine in front of me " are not our crowd." I crossed my arms waiting for him to continue. He blew a cloud in my direction. " You are the symbol of today's youth. With press like this, we will definitely be at the top in no time." I rolled my eyes. He heaved himself up and walked towards the door. " oh and son, I think you should limit the female companions that you surround yourself with at night... Someone is bound to notice, like that pretty June waiting for you at home." He smiled before closing the door.
