June: The rise to a better life
Later that day, Elvis dropped me off at my house. I tried to hand the record over to him but he only shook his head. " I don't want it." He said, pushing my hand away. " Elvis!" I rolled my eyes. " Stop being such a pussy!" His eyebrows furrowed. " I ain't a pussy." He mumbled. " Then take the damn record and show your parents!" I rose my voice as I started to get slightly annoyed. Angry at my hostility he yanked the record out of my hand, " Fine!" " Fine!" I yelled back. He shook his head glaring at me and I turned around and walked swiftly into my house.
I threw my purse into the corner and sighed frustrated. I peaked out the window and saw him mumbling a few words. He pinched the bridge of his nose and walked to my doorway. He knocked. I let him stand there, knocking for a few minutes before a voice startled me. " Aren't you gonna open it?" Mom said with a laundry basket in her hand. " Mom!" I whispered startled. Elvis began banging the door and was yelling a few threats about breaking the record. " What are you doing?" " Laundry, duh." She rolled her eyes lifting the basket. " That's not what I meant!" I whispered frantically. " You gonna opens the door or am I?" " UGH!" I yelled rolling my eyes so hard, they nearly got stuck in the back of my head. I opened the door and he almost hit my face. " What?!" I yelled. His blue eyes penetrated mine and he mumbled an apology. " If don't need your stupid apology." I tried to close the door but he stuck his foot just in time between the door and the doorway. " Damn it June, let me talk!" He yelled frustrated.
I opened the door all the way and leaned on the doorway with my arms crossed. " Look, you're right. I'm wrong. I'll show it to them tonight alright?" I pursed my lips and looked at him as his eyes burned into my soul. Powerless, I sighed and nodded my head. His eyes twinkled and he looked around before bending down to kiss me fiercely, as if punishing my lips for going against him. My breathing hitched, and stopped. I begged him to come closer, biting his lower lip when- he stopped, sneered and walked away. My jaw dropped, that is the first time I had ever encountered such a shocking thing. What kind of guy, walks away from a hot kiss?
Later that night, after dinner with my parents, I left to my room to get ready for tomorrow. I was going to see if Elvis told the truth and did show his parents. I listened to some records while cleaning my room. After I was finished, I sat on my bed and was thinking of something else to do when I heard tapping on my window. I smiled and cleared my throat. I got up and parted some of my gown so that a little cleavage was showing. That'll show him who's boss. I opened the window and said " Elvis, get your ass out of here-" " Hey June." As my eyes adjusted to the light, Aaron was sitting on the ground, smiling up at me. Immediately I covered myself. " Aaron." I muttered. He stood up and sighed. He stretched his back. " I been sitting here a long time wonderin' if I should call you or not." He said looking at the ground. " What for?" I croaked. He looked at me. " It ain't about what you're thinking. Move over so I can come in."
Without waiting for my confirmation he jumped in as I moved out just in time. My head hung in shame as I thought about leading him on. He didn't notice as he scanned the room. " It looks a little better with lights on." He whispered. I faked a laugh and sat down. He looked around in my closet and he said " I ain't gonna beat around the bush so I'm just gonna be straightforward with you." He stopped for a moment before continuing. " I want you to choose me instead of him." He shushed me before continuing. He walked around slowly. Then, he sat on the floor across from me. " June, you are beautiful. Your smile has the ability to light a room on fire. You make me feel so alive, so happy. You make me complete." He breathed in a shaky breath. " Since the day I found you with your broken ankle, till this day June, you still work wonders on my heart." " Aaron, look-" " I'm not done." He whispered. " June, I know what I'm asking is selfish. But please, I'm desperate. I really love you, and I want you to, no, I need you to choose me instead of him." He whispered his last sentence to the floor. It was a long time before either of us said anything. I sighed. " Aaron." He ignored me. I sank into the ground with him. " Aaron." I said again, pulling his chin up. " I love Elvis. I really love him." He made no sound while his blue eyes cried. " Elvis is everything I want, and everything I need. Right now, I know I'm being harsh but I don't think we were meant for each other."
