Gales POV:
The next day with Katniss was a blur of joy, tears, and anxiety. I wasn't sure how close she wanted me to be. I didn't know if I should keep my distance or be right next to her like before. We walked through the woods of District 12 soundlessly being careful not to scare off the game. The war stays at the back of my mind. The capital destroyed Katniss and I wanted to destroy it. Instead I destroyed the thing she loved most. Prim. She was much to young to die. Only 13 years old and so kind to everyone. She didn't deserve to die. These thoughts pound in my head for awhile. Katniss occasionally shoots down a few birds and rabbits here or there I set some snares. It brings back memories of when we were just 14 and 16 years old fighting for our life's. We walk for a while longer until I spot a deer and Katniss shoots it down. It looks to weigh more than she does but she picks it up with such ease and almost a smile on her face. I haven't seen her smile in a while. The games the war it destroyed the young girl I once knew. I missed her smile barely anyone saw it. It made me feel secure and happy. We walk towards the fence and Katniss puts her arm out to stop me. "Do you hear what I hear?", she says. Sure enough the fence is buzzing with electricity. It almost never is. I can tell Katniss is tired. I suggest we find a place to sleep as it is nearly 8:00. She nods in agreement. We finally find a spot under a tree that provides some shelter. It's almost winter and it is very cold outside, Katniss is shivering and I can see it. However, she is still the stubbornest person I've ever met, and I know if I ask her if she's cold she will argue against the idea. Instead I let her fall asleep. She places her head on my shoulder and I place my head on her head. She's shivering violently. If it stays this cold she will most certainly get frost bite. There wasn't much to do so I did the only thing I could do. I picked her up in my arms and she warmed up. She wakes up for a moment realizing where she is. I'm expecting her to get away from me, but instead she wraps her hands around my neck and pulls herself closer. "Thanks", she says simply before falling back asleep. I look down at her and smile. My one and only Katniss.
