I exited the bathroom and Jace smiled.
"You look good." His eyes got huge. "I meant better! Well, good as in not gross. Except you didn't look gross. That not what I meant at all- you see, you looked-" I only laughed as he stumbled over simple words.
"Do I look good as a human? I've only ever met one in person, and she wasn't even a real human." I was referring to Queen Eliana.
"Well," he started bashfully, "You're the prettiest woman I have ever seen. But that's probably because you're not a human."
I smiled, "Well thanks. I'm quite flattered."
Jace showed me around New York. There was so much to do and so much to see; I could hardly take it all in. But, to be honest, my favorite thing on Earth was Jace. He had taken me in. He took care of me. Paid for everything I needed. I could never thank him enough.
I was always overjoyed when I saw his goofy face and wild ebony hair. I felt like every time he spoke to me, my broken heart slowly mended.
Acting human now came naturally to me, and sometimes I forgot I was an alien.
Jace had rented me a room next to his apartment. He constantly apologized that it wasn't the best. I would just laugh and shrug it off.
The day our relationship became serious was exactly one year after I had come to Earth. One year after leaving my baby. I almost couldn't do it.
Jace took me aside one day before he left for work. He knocked on my door with some flowers. They were beautiful, I told him. They weren't Fursionians, but they were still beautiful.
He told me they were called, "roses".
I hugged him and said I loved them. Then his face got serious. "Pais," he started, holding my shoulders firmly.
"You know that I'm here for you, right?" I nodded, not getting his meaning.
"And that I will always be here for you, and that I would never let anything happen to you?"
"Yes...?"
He sighed. "Paisley," he began, "would you be so terribly upset if—now I'm not saying you have to, but, if you want—to, maybe, possibly, make this a-an official relationship?" I backed up, surprised.
"Jace, I..."
"You don't have to," he quickly assured me. "It's just, we live right next to each other, and we've known each other for a while now, and, I don't know..."
I recovered from my shock, and, without fully understanding what I was doing, stepped forward and kissed him on the cheek.
"I would love that," I whispered in his ear, a playful smile on my lips.
Jace let out a breath and smiled. "Me too," he said.
Our relationship only grew. Jace agreed that he would arrange for me to go to Neptune as soon as possible to search for William.
Two days after Jace had confronted me about us would have been Willie's tenth birthday.
