It's too early to start work, I thought. I feared the reason for this early wakeup call was not good.

I stood, and, even though my legs felt like jelly, walked towards the door. I flipped the little switch that told the person on the outside I was awake. The door swung open, and standing in front of me was Connor, a Neptunian servant who had become Colin's and Willie's and my friend during our time here. He had been released soon after our arrival.

Connor's face said everything. I ran into his arms and burst into tears. "I'm sorry, Paithenia. I'm so sorry." He patted my back.

William awoke and came to stand next to me and Connor. His eyes grew wide as he realized what had happened. He tugged on my fingers and held his arms up. I picked him up and he said, "Mommy, it's okay. I got you and you got me still."

I just cried harder at his attempt to comfort me. This beautiful little boy now had no father to help raise him.

Inside I secretly promised William and myself that I would somehow escape and fix things. Somehow.

We heard boots clump down the hallway. Connor gave me a nervous apologetic smile and darted away, closing the door softly behind him.

Chad soon appeared at the door, slamming it open. It almost hit Will, and I quickly grabbed him out of the way before the metal door could smack into his skull.

Chad's disgusting face had the most wicked, evil smile I had ever seen. "I see you heard about my poor, poor brother." My hopeless expression must have made it obvious.

Chad chuckled. "Well, I'm certainly glad he's out of the way. Come now, we must have you start work right away, dear." My hate for Chad grew with every word he spoke.

At the end of his sentence, Willie was starting to sniffle. "But Mommy, that's mean! If he does that then we won't be together anymore!" I tried to shush him, but Chad was already on him.

"Shut your mouth, maggot! You had both better get to work." He yanked on the chain and we followed along behind him like Carylins on a leash, our heads bowed in painful defeat. My love. My darling. Dead.
