U45: Book 1 and 2

Season 1 Episode 1 (June 2, 2018)

This episode opens with Representative Sandara Park explaining the format of the show.

"Anyeonghasseyo! I am Sandara Park and I will be the Representative of the National Producers this season. Now, let me tell you how this show works. U45 is similar to the Produce 101 franchise. There will be 5 evaluations. The first one will be the grade evaluation where the 45 contestants will be evaluated based on their chosen performances. The trainees will receive a grade from A to F. Then, they will be grouped based on their given grades and start practicing the vocals and choreography for their theme song. They will then record themselves individually. After that, the mentors will evaluate their solo cams to determine their second grade which will be the grouping basis for their theme song. This will serve as their second evaluation. Now, please welcome the 45 contestants in U45."

Soon after, the contestants enter the studio by company. Trainee Park Chae Young (박채영) of YG Entertainment sits on the first place seat.

After all the contestants are seated, Special MC Kwon Yu Ri (권유리) of Girls' Generation enters the studio and explains the show format. According to her statement, 9 trainees will redébut as a project co-ed group under The G Entertainment which is a subsidiary of YG Entertainment. Every week, a ranking will be shown. In some episodes, those who've got the lowest ranks will be eliminated.

She introduces the mentors. They are Im Yoon Ah (임윤아), Lee Chae Rim (이채림), Lee Hong Gi (이홍기), Lee Min Ho (이민호), Bae Suzy (배수지), and Park Jin Young (박진영) serving as a one-day mentor. After that, Sandara Park is introduced as the Representative of National Producers.

Then, the mentors begin evaluating the contestants' prepared performances. Here are their first individual grades:

After, they start practicing their choreography and vocals for their theme song. In order to help them, the mentors are assigned to different classes. Here are their assignments:

After practicing, the mentors announce that there is still a possibility that their grades will change. They are tasked to record themselves performing the vocals and choreography of their theme song. A cliffhanger is shown with footage of some of their solo cams and the mentors' comments.
