I woke up with the feeling of sunshine on my face and the smell of cologne. I know that this wasn't cologne I was familiar with. The smell was not like my fathers cologne. The smell of my father's cologne was a lot different and every time I smelled it I could imagine myself somewhere else. Last time I smelled his cologne I saw a beach. His cologne smells like aloe.
This new smell was burning wood, and like pine cones.
I curled up more and felt arms around me. I raise my head up and opened my eyes and saw Jay resting his head against a tree. His face was calm and it looked like he would wake up and run at any moment. I rested my head against his chest. He woke up and looked around and he looked down at me and I saw him smirk. I yawned and said
"Morning Jay." Jay said
"Morning Sparrow. Do you wanna head to the camp or do you wanna stay here for a while?" I thought for a moment.
Either I stay for a while with Jay or I shorten our time and go to the base. As much as I wanted to become a rebel I wanted to spend some time with Jay.
"Well I would like to stay here and learn some survival skills before I go to the base."
I smirked. He smiled. His teeth are a dazzlingly, bright, white.
"Well then let's start on the basics. Make a fire."
I smiled. I ran and picked up two rocks since Jay already had a fire pit made. I went over to the pit and set up some twigs. I took the rocks and looked them over. Hoping that I was right about them being flint rocks. I rubbed them together over the fire and it made a spark. I kept rubbing the rocks together until the twigs caught on fire. I smiled knowing I made fire.
(Jays point of view)
Wow. She is amazing. I thought she wouldn't be able to do it. She might want to try tree running maybe, even tree watching.
"Hey Sparrow wanna go tree running? Or tree watching?" "What's tree running?" she asks. "Can you climb trees?"
"Yes"
"Then come with me Sparrow." I loved saying her name. I wonder why her parents named her after a bird. I am glad they did though it suits her very well. Once we were in the tree I said
"This is tree running." I started running through the tree tops hitting the limbs so fast and so lightly it was like I was flying. I here tree branches moving lightly behind me. I don't pick up pace when I see Sparrow running in front of me. She was laughing. I couldn't help but laugh too. Her long brown hair was moving behind her. It looked like feathers moving in the wind. Wow. She really is amazing. I hear the sound of armor. I speed up and grab Sparrow and I look in her eyes and say "shhh listen." Her eyes widened at the realization that we weren't alone.
"Now to start tree watching." I slid down the tree just enough where I wouldn't be seen and I could see. I helped Sparrow down next to me I whispered
"Don't talk to loud and when you see something show me ok?" She nodded and then she squinted and pointed at a group of guards. They were heading for the base! A little further down the group I saw Fog! Fog dressed up as the commander of this group! They had him held back by his arms dragging him along. He looked up and saw me and Sparrow. He grinned and mouthed the words
'I am sorry. Protect Sparrow that is my last command for you.'
I nodded and teared up. Fog and I where best friends and seeing him like this was unbearable. I mouthed the words
'Do I warn the base?' He smiled and mouthed
'If you can get there. I will see you again someday now run.' I nodded and saluted and looked at Sparrow and whispered "We have to get to base... and fast." She smirked and whispered "Are we gonna tree run?" "Yes"
