To Make A Difference

Chapter 10

Jay has taken Fog's death hard he must have been really close to him. I'm just glad we made it to the base alive! The base was in the trees! To enter you had to either whistle a certain tune or say a secret word. When Jay climbed up the tree he went to a knot in the wood. He pushed a hidden button and a robotic voice asked for a password Jay said triskadeckapdobia and then a man comes over the speaker and says

"Who are you?" his voice was low and gravelly. Jay said

"It's me Jay."

"Who is with you?"

"It's the chosen bride"

"Then where's Fog?" Jay clenched up and said "He has fallen."

"Come in." A secret door appeared next to the knot and Jay looked over and asked are you afraid of heights, rollercoasters, or even slides?" "No.... well I hate being alone on rides" Jay looks at me and says in the knot "Make it a two seater" Then the hole grows big enough for two people. Jay looks at me and says "Ready?" I nod. We run into the hole in the tree and I scream because I fall and I didn't stop. When I stopped and it felt like I landed on a seat. I was buckled around the waist and a foam holder came around my chest holding me securely to the chair and then the car bursts forward and I screamed again. To my side Jay was laughing. I felt the car slow and it was slowly rising up a steep hill. I was clinging to the restraints as much as I could. Jay said

"Don't worry it's just like sledding down a hill... really fast."

"OK!" I yelled out nervously. Jay reached over and grabbed my hand and says

"Don't worry you will survive!" I could feel his smile. I opened my eyes and it was darker than I expected. There Jay and I were on top of a steep hill in a rollercoaster car and he was comforting me by holding my hand. I felt like an immature child but, I felt safer now since he was holding my hand. The ride started up again. I screamed and squeezed Jays hand really hard. Jay yelled over my screams "OUCH!" I started laughing. Then I started screamed I was falling so fast and so much it felt like my guts was rising up inside me. A few minutes later the car jerked to a stop. The seats unbuckled and lifted the foam restraint. Jay let go of my hand and shook it around to act like it hurt.

"Sorry."

"It's ok you just squished it death." I giggled. He laughed

"Come on I'll show you around." He held out his hand I grabbed it and he pulled me up out of the chair. He walked me through a set of double wooden doors. I looked around and there was trees everywhere. There was huts in the trees and tents on the ground and training spots. It was amazing! Huts in the trees!

"Wow! This is beautiful!" Lots of green. I was so relaxed at the sight. Jay grabbed my hand and said

"Let me show you around!" I nodded laughing at him. " We climbed up a tree and we walked me over to a hut and said

"This is my hut and since you can climb trees pick one."

"But don't other people live here?" "Yes but not a lot most of us can't climb trees." I was surprised at that statement.

"How many can climb?"

"The chief can, I can, you can, oh and the spies there's four of them." "So only seven rebels can climb trees?"

"Yes"

"Wow, that a little sad."

"I know they are attempting to learn though."

"Pick a hut." He smirked. I walked around and picked the hut next to his hut. I opened the door and looked around. I saw survival supplies. I recognized few of the supplies. There was backpacks, roll up tents, sleeping bags, dried fruit, and some sort of jerky. I opened the closet and saw tank tops and sweat pants. Over to the side there was a SKS over to the side and tons of bullets. I also saw combat boots and camo paint. I looked over at Jay and asked

"Why is there so much training clothes? I understand that we have to be ready and all.... But seriously.... No clothes for a different season?" Jay laughed and said "Well, the weather here hardly changes." "Oh. I didn't know that. Actually I didn't know that this forest existed." Jay looked at me and said "Actually it kinda doesn't...." "What?!"
