“We met in the summer of 2013, and when I say we met I mean in a chat room.” Justin’s mouth dropped open, before he could say anything I cut him off. “I know, don’t bother telling me, it’s dangerous and I should be careful who I talk to because it could be a 40 year old pedophile who’s looking to jack off. Don’t worry I know.”

“Okay, then continue.” He said, he moved to sit beside me and gave me his full attention.

“Okay, well anyways. When I first started talking to him he lived in Iowa with his mom but then he moved here to live with his dad a few weeks afterwards, I started dating him a few days after he moved to Hillsdale High.” I paused to take a gulp of wine, in that same moment Justin’s phone rang; he sighed and dug it out of his pocket, after looking at the caller screen he slid it back in.

“Not important.” He told me. “Continue on with story time.” I smiled before taking another sip of wine.

“Mmm, at first dating Lane was… amazing, he was one of the hometown bad boys. I thought that was pretty cool, until he asked the big question.”

“He asked you to have sex with him.” Justin guessed, I nodded and looked down as I set the wine aside.

“I wasn’t ready…”I said looking down, Justin wrapped his arm around me in comfort.

“It’s okay Bella, you can tell me.” I looked up as tears streamed down my face.

“I— he…” I trailed off, but Justin got the hint and looked taken aback.

“He.. That bastard raped you!?!” I looked at him as more tears streamed down my face and I started sobbing, a moment later the side of my face was pressed against something hard and warm; it took me a moment to realize it was Justin’s chest. He started to shush me, saying everything would be okay. A couple of minutes went by and I pulled away, wiping at my tears and sniffling.

“Everything went downhill after that, he saw other girls behind my back and he flirted in public. It was really embarrassing for me, I couldn’t get through the day without everyone looking at me and pointing. I felt more like a fucking sex slave more than anything, everyone knew what Lane did to me and they didn’t understand why I was still with him.”

“Why did you stay with him?” Justin asked, I looked into space really thinking about that.

“I guess, because thinking having a boyfriend was better than having no boyfriend at all.”

“But he wasn’t your boyfriend, Bella. Not really.” I looked up at Justin’s face and smiled slightly.

“Yeah, I know that now Justin. I finally broke up with him, telling him I was fed up with his shit. He blew a gasket, hit me multiple times, broke my wrist in the process.” I looked up at his surprised expression. “Do me a favor? Don’t tell Alexis, she doesn’t know that part.” He only nodded. “Then he told me ‘you’ll pay for this stupid bitch move, Bella. No one does this to me, no one breaks up with Lane Couch’ I landed in the hospital with a concussion when I told him ‘I just did’.” I opened my mouth to continue but Justin’s phone rang again, he sighed heavily and dug it out of his pocket; I peered at the screen and saw Alexis’ face smiling back at me. “You can go ahead and take it, I’m gonna freshen up a little.”

“You sure?” He asked, I nodded and got up from the couch to deposit the wine glass in the sink and put the wine in the fridge before making my way to the bathroom; I splashed water on my face before drying it with a towel, I walked back to the living room. “Yeah, we’re okay.” Justin said into the phone, Alexis? I mouthed; he nodded, the door bell rang then. I went to answer it, no one was there; I looked down and saw a shiny foiled wrapped box, I got the worse case of déjà vu then. Slowly I picked up the box, I looked into the hall then back out the door before shutting it a moment later. I walked into the kitchen, I felt something wet and sticky on my hand; I smelt it but I still looked at my hand, I started to hypervinalate when I saw blood.

“Justin.” I whispered, he didn’t hear me though I wasn’t loud enough; I took a deep breath and lifted the lid, I looked inside then I dropped it and screamed bloody murder. Justin heard that, he came running; worry evident on his face.

“Bella? What’s wrong? What happened?” He asked, with wide eyes and shaking all over with fear I pointed to the wrapped present; he looked inside then gasped and put his hand over his mouth. “Babe, uhm, I gotta call you back.” He pressed end, then he dialed a number; it better have been 911 for what we both saw. A bloody cut off finger was inside, but the worst part was the finger had my mom’s wedding ring on it; and a note inside said I’m back.
