OCEAN EYES. CH.14

For the rest of the week, not much had changed. Kurt made Blaine breakfast in the morning, talked to his nurse on the phone to update her on his condition everyday, and took care of him the best he could. They had fallen into the routine of putting the TV on most of the time to keep from awkward silence, because even when Kurt tried to talk to Blaine, he was always distant.
Kurt had tried countless times to talk to him about how he felt and what he could remember, but he always seemed to respond with one word answers. He was difficult to talk to, and Kurt had no clue what to do. He knew that Blaine must be depressed and scared, but he didn't know how to make him feel better.
He looked over at Blaine as they sat on the couch, taking a deep breath. "I'm gonna run to my apartment and get some more clothes." He said softly. "Do you need anything while I'm out?"
Blaine shook his head. "No." He said, looking out the window.
Kurt nodded, scooting closer to Blaine and wrapping him in a gentle hug. "I'll be back soon. I love you." He whispered, before walking out of the apartment. He had continued to say 'I love you,' somewhat out of habit, but also because he knew that this was still Blaine. He might've been in an accident and he might be different right now, but, he knew that the boy he fell in love with had to be in there.
He walked to his apartment and hummed softly as he gathered up some more clothes, looking up as Rachel walked in. "Hey, Rach." He said softly.
Rachel set her bags down and walked into Kurt's room, sitting down on his bed. "Hey." She smiled. "How's everything going? Blaine doing any better?"
Kurt shrugged. "Physically, yeah, he's doing great. Healing fast." He said, taking a deep breath and sitting beside Rachel. "He still can't remember anything."
Rachel sighed softly. "The nurse said it could come back slowly- have you been talking to him about the things he doesn't remember?" She asked. "If you tell him about his life maybe it'll jog his memory."
Kurt laid back on his bed, rubbing his eyes. "He won't even talk to me." He breathed. "Everytime I try to tell him about his life, or memories of us together, or that I love him, he just responds with one word and he just- he's so distant." He sighed. "I get that he must be so scared- I would be too. But I just want to help him. I feel like I'm his caretaker at this point, not his boyfriend."
Rachel looked over at Kurt, shaking her head. "That's awful, Kurt, I'm sorry." She said softly. "But, I mean, of course he's not gonna wanna hear about his life from a stranger. Just- maybe try telling him about yourself some more. Let him get to know you again. He fell in love with you before, you just have to let it happen."
Kurt nodded slowly as she spoke. "I guess that's what I'm scared of, you know? What if he doesn't fall in love with me again? What if he gets to know me and hates me or something?"
Rachel laughed softly. "It's still Blaine. Just because he lost his memory doesn't mean it's not still him." She said. "Have you been showing him any affection?"
Kurt shrugged. "Sometimes I tell him that I love him, but that's about it."
Rachel nodded. "You can't expect him to act like your boyfriend if you're not acting like his." She said. "Try giving him more affection- I mean, don't shove your tongue down his throat right away but it's not a bad idea to hold his hand, or kiss his cheek. Let him get familiar with you again." She smiled. "You just have to put all your effort into making this work."
Kurt took a deep breath. "Okay, okay." He said, sitting up. "I gotta head back to make him lunch. Thanks for talking to me." He smiled softly, pecking her cheek before walking back out onto the rainy sidewalk of New York.
