The sound of echoing footsteps could be heard throughout the temple as Desmond walked off to an abandoned section. You had been reading his vitals and putting them into the record book when he arrived from Brazil with another power source, talking for a few minutes before stalking off to have a little bit of Desmond time. But something seemed off about him, you didn't know if it was the fact that he had been in the Animus almost non-stop for three months, or the fact that Juno was making herself appear more and warning us about Desmond. You figured he just needed a moment, but something in your heart told you he had a lot more on his shoulders than you thought and that you should make sure he was okay. After all, Juno had been telling you all to 'guard Desmond.' So, you put down your pen and stood up from your place by the animus, Rebecca glanced over at you from her work on the mainframe and you sighed as you began walking after him. "I'll be back in a second." You informed her as you crossed your arms over your chest, trying not to fall off of one of these cliffs and die.
A chill ran down your spine as you walked into the area where you thought Desmond went, a crumbling staircase and cracked walls that looked like they were about to collapse. "Desmond?" You called into the silence but received no reply, only a faint mechanical sound could be heard and you gulped down your fear and anxiety and ventured farther. Your foot stepped onto the first step, and you placed your other foot on the next step up and kept going. You heard muffled talking, and as you made your way up the winding stairs you saw Desmond standing on the stairs a few feet away from you. You relaxed a little bit, the worry clouding your mind fading when you saw he was okay and hadn't fell off a cliff. He heard your footsteps but didn't turn around as you approached, seeing his chest rise and fall with every passing breath he took. He had one foot on one stair and the other on the step above, his hand placed on his thigh as he stared at his shoes. You placed a hand on his shoulder softly, he jumped at the contact before realizing it was you. "Des? You okay?" You asked and he sighed heavily before lifting his head, but he still didn't look at you.
"I killed her." He spoke, his face falling and you could tell he was remembering the way he was controlled by Juno. You sighed knowingly before moving around to be in front of him, staring up into his deep brown eyes that were brimming with tears ready to fall. "No, that wasn't you Desmond. That was the crazy as—" Before you could get the rest of your sentence out, Desmond scoffed loudly and turned around and began to walk up the stairs. "Don't give me that, Y/N. You have no idea how it felt, nobody does. It was like—" He stopped suddenly, staring at his back as he paused and stepped up onto a flat part of the platform. "Tell me, Desmond. Like you said, I have no clue what it was like. I need you to talk to me, please," You slowly made your way towards him, "Des, I wanna know so that I can help you." You pleaded and finally reached him, stepping up onto the platform beside him. It was quiet for a moment, faintly hearing Rebecca and Shaun arguing over something in the distance. You mentally rolled your eyes, they argue over everything.
Desmond was quiet and you could practically see the gears turning in his head, fiddling with his hands in front of him as a distraction. "Juno." He suddenly spoke up and you jumped a little bit at hearing his voice pierce the silence, staying quiet so he could talk. "She... she controlled me. But, it was weird. I still had a choice." He admitted, his head turning slightly to look at you but not quite making full eye contact. "I saw what Lucy was. What would have happened had I let her live. Lucy was going to betray us, and take the Apple back to Abstergo." He finally turned all the way around to face you after a moment, probably wanting to see your reaction to the news. You sighed through your nose but you weren't surprised, you always had an off feeling about Lucy and your gut was never wrong. "I saw the satellite launched. I saw them turn it on." He continued, you walked forward and placed your hand on his arm since you figured he was done. "Then you did the right thing, Desmond. I don't see wh—" but you were cut off.
"Because the satellite failed!" His voiced raised over yours suddenly, you flinched and stepped back and your hand fell from his arm. He sighed regretfully and reached out to softly grab your hand, his grip loose enough so that you could pull away if you wanted to. You kept your gaze on your shoes as the air grew silent again, finding them very interesting all of a sudden. "The satellite failed, Y/N. Lucy didn't have to die." He mumbled under his breath, stepping closer to you so that his chest was almost touching yours but not quite. His other hand slid into yours, your soft skin meeting the rough texture of his, and he turned his gaze to look down at the floor. You finally got the courage to look at him, seeing the guilt written all over his face and you knew he was ashamed to even look at you. Your hand slipped out of his to reach up and cup his cheeks, tilting his head up to make him look you in the eyes. You froze when you saw his deep brown eyes sparkle even in the dull light of the temple, softly feeling his hand settle onto your wrist and run his thumb over the smooth skin. You ran your thumb over the jagged scar on his lips, seeing Desmond blush slightly yet he still leaned into your touch and gave you one of his rare smiles.
"You still did the right thing, Desmond. It didn't matter if the satellite failed or not, because Abstergo would've had the Apple." You broke the comfortable silence and he stayed quiet as he pondered over your words, still maintaining eye contact and feeling as if he was looking into your soul. "You're right." He finally spoke up and you smiled brightly at his words, engraving the softness of his skin in your mind. "When have I ever been wrong?" You joked, the air taking a sudden turn when his hand slid down your arm and moved to cup your cheek instead. You could see his eyes glance down to your lips and he smiled knowingly when you caught him staring, moving forward to connect your forehead with his. "Never." He mumbled, his eyes fluttering closed as he moved forward and gently pushed his lips into yours. You could tell he was holding back by the way his lips barely touched yours, so you chased away all doubt he had and pulled him closer by his jacket and fully pressed his lips to yours. Your mind raced as he worked his soft lips against yours, both of his hands now cupping your cheeks as your arms slid up to wrap around his neck. He smiled when he felt you were actually kissing him back, your hands finding their way into his hair and pulling slightly, causing him to groan into your mouth. Your heart fluttered when his hands slid into your hair, getting some revenge from a moment ago when he pulled gently at your hair. He was satisfied when your lips parted and you moaned softly against his lips, taking the opportunity to slip his tongue inside and battle for dominance with yours.
You had wanted to do this for so long, wanted to kiss and hold him like this. But it was never the right moment, the group was always on the run and Abstergo was always hot on your tail. You hardly got a moment to yourselves and when Desmond went into that coma, you were all in overdrive mode while he was trying not to end up like Subject 16. His hands moved out of your hair and down to tug the end of your shirt up a little bit, setting his cold hands on your warm hips to caress the soft skin, sneakily winding around to the small of your back to press your hips to his. You blushed deeply when you realized what he had done, internally rolling your eyes at how kinky he was. Desmond pulled away when he must have needed air, the both of you panting heavily as you placed your forehead against his again. Desmond's eyes remained closed as your breaths mingled together, feeling the hot air fan across your face brought a blush to your cheeks. "Y/N! Desmond! Where have you gone off to?" Shaun's voice echoed throughout the temple and you rolled your eyes, Desmond sighed in frustration as he stepped away from you with a scowl on his face. You extended your hand out to reach for his, and he smiled softly and gladly interlaced his fingers with yours. You glanced down at your hands and smiled to yourself, tugging lightly and turning to walk down the stairs back to the group.
"Come on, we should get back."
