I soared over the city my russet brown wings spread wide catching the wind. Sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. My name is Emily, but I have a secret. I'm a superhero! My superhero name is Eagle and my powers include my wings and my ability to summon and control a golden colored energy. I'm in the middle of a routine flight over the city of Aria. Oh! Right! You don't where Aria is! Aria is a smaller town located between Gotham and Central City. Because of that, we have a lot of crime. When I found out about my powers I made a promise to help as many people as I could. Anyways, I was passing over downtown my heightened senses picked up a scream. Using my powers I increased my sight to match that of an eagle. Looking down I saw a teenage girl getting mugged in an alley. I land behind the thug and grab his shoulder, "Not cool dude," I growl, whipping him around to face me.
"E-Eagle," he yelps and drops his lead pipe.
"You gonna come quietly," I ask.
The man's expression hardens and he grabs his pipe again, "No way!"
I shrug, "Your funeral," then I kick him in the gut and then smash my knee against his nose when he doubles over. He blacks out and crumples to the pavement, "Wow, didn't even use my powers." I shake my head and walk over to the girl he'd attacked, "You okay?"
She's still shaking and cradling her right arm, "I think he broke my arm."
I gently touch her arm, "Yeah, he did. I can heal this with my powers if you want." She nods. "Okay, try not to move," I take a deep breath and my hand glows gold. The golden light swirls around her arm and the swelling surrounding the area of the break goes down.
She sighs in relief, "Thank you, Eagle."
"You're very welcome. Stay safe," I reply then I start to run down the alleyway. I only got about a dozen steps before a spread my wings and launch skyward. As I passed over my house I saw something that almost made me drop out of the sky. The Batmobile was parked in the alleyway near my house! I landed on the roof of a nearby building and stared at the car. 'Why is Batman in Aria,' I think to myself. Then I hear a voice behind me.
"Hello, Eagle."
I yelp in surprise and take off. Hovering about thirty feet above the rooftop I stare in the direction of the voice, "Batman?! Sorry, I didn't mean to panic like that," A land and face the Dark Knight, "What brings you to Aria?"
"You," he replies.
"Huh?! Why me," I ask?
"You've done good work so the League has taken notice. We have a team of heroes who aren't old enough to join the League yet but have the skill set to. We want you to join that team," Batman explains.
"B-but what about my civilian life," I ask even though I don't really care. My parents are abusive so I have to hide my powers from them.
Batman stares at me, "I know who you are, Emily," I gasp, "I know what your parents do to you. What I need to know is, do you want out of it?"
I nod, "Yeah I do... but I can't leave. I may be eighteen but I'm still in school."
"Tomorrow Bruce Wayne will be visiting Aria on the pretext of adopting a child out of poverty. That will be your chance," Batman says.
"How do you know? Are you Mr. Wayne," I ask?
"If I was would you come with me and keep my secrets as well of the rest of the team," he asks?
"Of course," I reply, "But I'd want to stay Eagle though."
For the first time in the conversation, I saw a hint of a smile on his face, "Then we'll meet again tomorrow." Then he pulls his grappling gun and swings down to the Batmobile. He looks up at me one last time before he gets in and drives off in the direction of Gotham.
