Tonight was meant to be a night to remember and it will be, just not for the reasons it was meant to. Tonight is my seventeenth and Bobby, my brother is throwing me a party. It's only for our close friends and that is what makes it worse.

Earlier in the night
I was standing in front of my mirror. Checking to make sure my hair and make up was perfect. Just as I was putting in the last of my lip gloss Jamie came in. He stood at my tall boy looking at all the photos I had hanging on the wall. I pulled one of us off inspecting it closely. He whispered, "this was a long while ago, do you remember much of the day at the beach?"

I walked away from my mirror and over the Jamie, taking the picture out of his hands and having a look myself. After having a better look I pinned it back. I replied, "that day feels like a lifetime ago."

Jamie took a step closer to me chuckling to himself "that was a good day."

I shook my head in disagreement "it was not a good day. You and Bobby tormented me most of that day. Stealing my ice cream, you threw me into the water and then you buried me in the sand and left me there for an hour."

Jamie smiled at me and the recollection of the day, his hand came up to my cheek then up to my cheekbone collecting a strand of hair then putting it behind my ear. He responded, "but at the end of the night when we were watching the fireworks on the shore, you kissed me."

I snorted very unattractively "that isn't how I remember it, James. If I remember correctly Bobby went off with these boys I didn't like. You offered to stay with me to watch the fireworks. Then out of the blue, you kissed me."

Jamie laughed swirling a strand of hair around his finger. He had an extremely amused look on his face. He replied huskily "it wasn't out of the blue. Back then I had a thing for you. I spent that whole summer trying to get your attention anyway I could. When being nice to you fail I then turned to annoy you."

I shook my head moving away from him. I asked, "why the trip down memory lane, why now?"

Jamie slowly moved closer to me, he answered "I wanted to remind you of some of the good times we shared, think of it as your seventeenth present."

I watched as he came closer to me again cupping my cheek. I looked down to his arm not wanting to look him in the eyes. He brought his forehead down to mine and whispered "it was one hell of a kiss."
I didn't answer him, my eyes remained on his hand that was still on my cheek. Slowly his nose brushed mine, then his lips moved over mine. A simple brush at first but when I didn't pull away Jamie continued. I brought my hands up to his chest as he took my lower lip into his mouth gently nibbling it.

I pushed away from him taking a step back, I sternly told him "we can't do that, I have a boyfriend."

He pinned me against a wall breathing heavily "and we both know you don't care about your boyfriend. When was the last time you even talked to him?"

I shrugged my shoulders "you know why we don't talk often he's busy at university, studying and working."

Jamie laughed "you heard the rumours before he left, he was sleeping with whoever he could, he even tried sleeping with your cousin, Matty."

I harshly laughed at him, his words had hurt me but I wouldn't let it show. I growled at him "MY cousin also said she slept with you and we both know that was a lie. We both know how reliable she is. How is that a good idea bringing that into this."

Jamie stormed our saying "you would be better off without him, he's a liar."

As he walked away I replied, "I know."

Shortly after I joined my brother downstairs setting the house up for tonight. Jamie was out getting supplies so it was only Bobby and I. He pulled me into his arms hugging me. He handed me a small wrapped present and whispered "happy birthday, princess."

I hugged him tighter replying "thanks, Bobby."

We were then interrupted by a cough coming from behind us. When I turned to face him there stood Ryan. I ran over to him wrapping my arms around his neck bringing him into a hug. As he went to kiss me we were interrupted by Jamie bringing in the supplies. I pulled away from Ryan joining Bobby going to get bags from Jamie's car. As we walked down there Bobby asked: "I thought you were done with him?"

I shrugged my shoulders "he said we should try again, we need put in more effort to talk and see each other."

I could hear the disappointment coming from his voice as he responded "you could do better."

Once we carried in the last of the things we all poured drinks and waited for everyone to start turning up.
