Chapter 28:

Theo walked into the room with Nori's dinner. He hadn't made her cook in a while. "I'll be home late, little one. I'm sorry to leave you alone again."

"It's okay," mumbled Nori. She sat at the table in an oversized cream colored sweater and no pants. It was another one of Theo's nonsensical punishments. He decided she had to earn them.

Theo grabbed her chin. "What did I say about the mumbling? And eye contact," he snapped.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

"You're forgiven." Theo peeled his shirt off and got a fresh one from the closet. Nori sharply inhaled. It was impossible not to appreciate his muscular chest and gorgeous body, but she didn't want to have a reaction every time he took his shirt off.

"I'm cold, Theo. Can I please have my pants back?"

"You haven't earned them. Wear a blanket."

"Well, if you're going out again can you at least give me back the television? I'm bored, Theo."

"I bought you all those new movies. That should be more than enough."

The week after returning from Martha's House was the most boring week of Nori's life. Theo hadn't reconnected the cable. She hadn't even left the bedroom. Theo was hiding something, she just didn't know what.

"Theo, please, I'm going crazy in here."

"Maybe I'll let you out when I get home tonight."

"Where are you going?"

"To dinner." That's all he ever told her when he went out. She hadn't had dinner with him since her first night back...after he carved his name into her chest. She reflexively touched the spot. It was covered in a bandage.

Then came his nightly assaults on her body. They were anything but gentle and since her return to his mansion he'd been careless about pulling out. The last thing she wanted was to possibly get pregnant.

"Why won't you tell me what's going on?" asked Nori.

"You have to earn it. You've done nothing to earn my trust, little one."

Nori was starting to speculate that she wasn't alone in here. Had Theo taken another girl? Maybe he felt like she was causing too much trouble and now he was going to get rid of her.

"What can I do to earn your trust?" asked Nori, desperate to see the outside of this room.

Her boredom was really taking a toll on her. It sounded horrible, but she found the isolation to be the worst part of her experience because when she was alone that's when she started panicking. She had no one to talk to except for him and when he left her alone the only thing there was her thoughts.

"Maybe if you learned to obey me you can earn my trust. I want to trust you, little one. I want us to be happy together. But I can't if you keep fighting me." Theo kissed her. "Now I have to go. Don't forget to check your blood sugar. I don't want you to get sick again."

"Okay." Nori pulled out her test kit. Theo smiled at her and left. She would never forget to check her sugars again.

Nori quietly ate the pasta that Theo had left for her. She then looked through the movies and picked a random horror flick and put it in the blu-ray player. She didn't even like horror films. But Derek did. Whenever he wanted to watch them he'd pull her close and scratch her head. It kept her from getting scared.

She wrapped herself in a blanket and started the movie. Celeste jumped up on the bed and snuggled with her. The only person who could protect her was herself.
